    New Ford transit van information from Europe

    I hope the support is better. One of the big problems with the Sprinter is getting repairs if you have a problem on the road. Even dealership support is spotty. Ford almost has to be better because it would be hard to be worse.

    New Ford transit van information from Europe

    I wonder how the Americanized version will compare to the European version. I was talking to a fellow driver last week, and he told me that the European versions of the Sprinter come with a manual transmission. I don't think you can get the manual tranny here, only the automatic that was...

    Need DOT Cargo Van Inspection location ASAP.

    Here in Illinois, certain repair shops do it. The locations are in the phone book if you're from around here, or you can probably look it up on Google if need be. Illinois isn't as strict as they once used to be. Right now, anything "B" plate and lower can probably take a pass on the safety...

    Babe-a-licious

    I'll second that. The best looking people are not in magazines, they're walking amongst us-- they very often are us.

    Several years back, now, but-- Ice cream. Packed in dry ice. Well, you did ask.

    Lightsquared is TOAST

    Lightsquared was the other major possibility I considered in my thread on GPS. I had read of this, but considered that if they were active, it would have to be more than just CHicago affected. I got no interference anywhere else.

    Doomsday Preppers

    I think gold will be pretty worthless if things go kerflooey. It's only worth what somebody else will give you in exchange for it, and if the paper money we all use suddenly becomes totally worthless then what will you get in exchange for your gold? I suspect Greg is more than a little right...

    Deep Cycle Batteries???

    From what I understand of it, the problem may be that you're using marine batteries. Turtle recommends using 6-volt golf cart batteries. Use 4 batteries, wire two in series to give you 12 volts, then wire the two banks of batteries in parallel for deeper 12-volt pack. 6-volt batteries give...

    GPS can't find it's *&&

    It's my pet conspiracy theory of the moment. I suppose everyone has one now and then. I've had a running forum battle with a guy who believes that HAARP is causing earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes, further that the federal government is doing it to test their new weapon of war. Why they...

    Cigarette lighter plug amps

    Cigarette lighter/power plug fuses are almost universally 15 amp. Some may be 20 amp. Whether the stuff you're plugging in can handle that power may be another matter, I've seen some Radio Shack power cords that you shouldn't put 8 amps on.

    GPS can't find it's *&&

    I may have to go back to my original thought, that deliberate (whether it's legal or not) jamming could be involved. The idea of sunspots only affecting my unit when I'm in the six-county metro area and nowhere else is surely not to be thought of. The same is true of the idea that my unit may be...

    lake effect snow coming to northwest indiana

    I just got in yesterday evening, tired of course. Dispatch asked if I would do a run to Battlecreek, I had to say "no" because I knew I was an accident waiting to happen if I went out again. Then after hanging up I suddenly remembered the lake-effect warnings I'd been hearing since Thursday...

    GPS can't find it's *&&

    Solar flares--- Yes, that might do it. I was interested in the idea that whatever was hitting me messed with me only in the Chicago area and cleared up as soon as I got out of the Chicago area. Monday afternoon, I had a trip to Battlecreek. From the pick-up in Franklin Park to approximately 95th...

    GPS can't find it's *&&

    That wouldn't cause the unit to be absolutely unable to see the satellites while you're in the suburbs, though. That's what I was experiencing yesterday while driving through Lombard, Glendale Heights and Carol Stream. A few days ago I had it happen on the far North side of Chicago, and it's all...

    GPS can't find it's *&&

    One theory can be put to bed temporarily, at least. There's reports of a new 4-G phone network that tried to use the band next to the GPS band, and since it's much more powerful than the satellite signals it would drown out GPS. Problem: If that were the case, it would do it all the time. I'm...

    GPS can't find it's *&&

    Have any of you been having trouble with your GPS lately? I have, and it seems so far to be in the Chicago Metro Area-- anywhere else it seems to be OK. But, in Chicago my Tom-Tom suddenly can't find its way home from its left elbow. It loses the satellites completely. Not just for a few blocks...

    Chicago--save yourselves

    I'm pretty well stuck. I live here. I do dash-and-back, so unless somebody comes up with a better plan I guess I just make the best of it. One of the companies I do business with tells me it's slow nationwide, so even if I could move it might not help much.

    Fuel may sky rocket

    I've been reading stuff that's a bit less hysterical. Gas may exceed $4.00 a gallon, but they say not by much. Gas in Chicago will cost more (it always does, to the point where I make sure I don't have to fuel in the city or in Cook County if it can be avoided). I haven't heard of it being...

    A&E shipping wars LOL

    I got a question: How in bloody thunder do they get away with this, on TV no less? I get jumpy if I forgot to put my signs up, and these people are running stuff that should get them nailed-- and with one exception they don't??? (Exception: one guy gets pulled over because he didn't have tags on...

    Should porn on a public library computer be ok?

    Way back when I was a boy, the local library had a children's section and an adult section. Now, the adult section didn't have anything racy, but the books were likely to be over the heads of the average second-grader so they had the separation. I wonder how much trouble it would be to have a...
