Thinking of jumping into the business with a D uni

RE: Thinking of jumping into the business with a D One thing to remember with the new hos rules is that if you have to deadhead to a location to pick up a run the clock is still running. If you have to go 100 miles to pick up a load you have lost roughly 2 hours already. If you have no DH I...

    CAT 3126

We have put several posts on here regarding this engine. We have a old fl70 with about 900000 and it is still running. But it does smoke a little. In addition, we have a kw300 and it currently has 285000 on it. As of late we have not had to put any money or repairs into the kw. Maybe we are just...

FMSCA Clarifies ambiguous and controversial HOS Ru

RE: FMSCA Clarifies ambiguous and controversial HO Bottom line is that if you are a single driver you are screwed with the 14 hr rule. Yes 2 periods of sleeper (min. 2 hrs) with a total of ten equal a problem. It is not an accident that JB, Wal-mart, Swift ect, are adding trucks and trying to...

    kw wipers

Have a T300 that the right side wiper chatters. We put new blades (complete), and replaced both long arms. Still does it. Has anyone else had this problem? Truck is a 99 model, about 200,000 miles. Before I forget, when you first turn them on it is ok, happens after it has been on for a...

    New HOS rules.

I keep seeing shorter loads to those that have available hours. Still sounds like less money. Since the wife and I team I don't really see a negative effect for us, but I do support the single folks who are certainly going to take a hit from this. The best thing I saw was on EO relating to the...

    Feedback

There are alot of good ideas on here for someone new. You should do in the area you are talking with most of the companies. Teams will be at a premium after the first of the year because of the new HOS rules. Good Luck!!!

    RE: Panther2 Rumour #1

With Panther or any other company, it will only matter if you have some consistancy of profitable runs. There are numerous posts in here dealing with load acceptance. We try to follow those pretty closely. We don't pay any attention to acceptance ratios ect. All of the companies are starved for...

    CPM or Percetange?

CPM is more exacting. But also consider how it is caculated. PC miler, HHG miles ect. Certainly makes a difference. Percentages are just that, percentages. Remember, 100% of nothing, is still nothing.

    911-- Tri-State help!

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't partner with one of the larger carriers. With new HOS regs, they would have the ability to transfer alot of loads between trucks to keep it moving. Not a good situation for drivers as this means less pay, more sitting, shorter runs ect.

    New Hours of Service Regs

I agree with you. If you are a single driver I don't think I would venture into expediting unless they change these rules. It will be tough to cheat the system if you are with the bigger companies, or a company that monitors or audits logs. If I was a single driver I would be looking to team...

    911-- Tri-State help!

I would have serious reservations about tri-state. We had a truck there and they were ok until they lost their GM contract. They currently have quite a few trucks they lease through alumi-junk and don't have drivers. Who do you think is making those payments? When we dealt with them they would...

    GENSETS

couldn't remember on the last post but the web address is www.truckgen.com. Klaus is a great person to work with and Dano is certainly top notch on anything technical, not to mention a great mechanic that does repairs right the first time!

    New Hours of Service Regs

canadian rules might be a little different but in the US, states are cracking down on commercial vans. If you have no lettering or qualcomm on top I think you could get away with quite a bit. Down here in FL they have been stopping commercial vans for weight and I not sure what else. Seems like...

    New Hours of Service Regs

It certainly is a problem for everyone. Single drivers will get hit the hardest first, however it won't take cheap foriegn labor long to inch into running teams ect. As far as union carriers, what is to stop them from closing up shop and re-opening under another name? Happens alot. Wal-Mart has...

    GENSETS

GENSET in Jacksonville did ours and they do a great job. ICT sleepers installed ours. Certainly well worth the money. Great service and finding parts are easy. Parts on ours are available at NAPA stores. They cost about $5,000 but they do finance them. Not sure how that part works though.

    New Hours of Service Regs

wife and I have been in expediting for a little while. Companies are going to start requiring team only trucks. They have no choice. Van business might increase alittle but the majority of the freight we haul isn't going on a van. In addition, I don't think customers are going to be willing to...

    Getting Involved

would't hurt to add another catagory. Most of the TT drivers are over on Trucknet and the van pool is shrinking as many companies have stopped adding them. That leaves just straight truck drivers viewing your site. Just an observation. They have also started their expedite forum up again at...

    Oh Well....

Well we know the feeling. We use to own 10 trucks now only half. Took the rest and invested in real estate down here in Flagler beach. Turned out to be a good move. Like I said earlier, can't do this business successfully with high costs, like a truck payment ect. Good experience for newcomers...

    33000??

I would watch carefully with a reweigh. That is not legal anymore in all states. If you have 26000 on the door that is what they will go by in PA. & FL. PA is really picky on this. Found out from Panther safety dept. Several drivers nailed with added tag axles.
