    My trucks have been busy.

Yes but when it's the big holiday weekend and you need to get home it might be easier just to search the backhaul websites and freight brokers that can get you directly home. Backhauls are not designed to make you money, but to keep empty moves down. How do you know if you will get expedited...

    My trucks have been busy.

My trucks are straight trucks, but owning a TT has it's advantages because back hauls are available to get home when you need them. Straight truck back loads a few and far between.

    Panther's Fuel Surcharge program.

I always tell them that if you want to pay for fuel you can move all over the place. They never move more then a few miles from the POD.. The key is to know where the truck stops are before you make the delivery and have a plan to prevent excess idle time. They also try to get empty move pay...

    Panther's Fuel Surcharge program.

Hi Leo, I have been lucky my Cummins ISX class 8 has been getting 11.2 miles a gallon and my smaller 30126B has been getting around the same. They are both in the 22 to 24ft class. My drivers have been great about deahead.. They only move if I tell them to. I had a deadhead total of 200 miles...

    My trucks have been busy.

I purchased my first two trucks in Febuary. It's been a long ride to get back the investment I put in. I had a guy show up to orientation just to steal a GPS and I ended up making a truck payment without any runs. Then I finally got someone good, he is part of the team I just mentioned, but...

    My trucks have been busy.

I have a team that drove 1300 miles two consective weekends in a row. They have a load going from Ohio to Texas delivering on Sat night. Amazing they did 3500 miles this week I never thought I would see that. They went from Ohio to Missouri and back to Ohio again. From there they went to...

    Panther's Fuel Surcharge program.

The new program is set at .37 cents a mile this week and will adjust each week on Tuesday to the National diesel index average. It's based on 8 miles per gallon straight truck and it is supose to keep fuel at $1.25 a loaded mile for straight truck owners. My thoughts: I think Panther...

    Panther changed their boards again

Yeah Star you must have missed the load my driver got when you moved to Pittsburgh. My driver got the load in the Harrisburgh area at 2am.

    Panther changed their boards again

Hello Star, one of my team trucks must have been on the board with you. I moved him to Carlisle PA from Jersey just to try to get him home in Ohio. I lucked out because the guy that does the dedicated run between Carlisle and the airport in Pittsburgh broke down so I got two pro's in one and...

    Cargo Vans vs Straight Trucks

The only disadvantage I can see with owning a cargo van is you are limited on what loads you can take. I have heard of actual owner opperators in cargo vans earning $500 a week one week and $3000 a week the next.

    Self Imposed Deadhead

The $4000 dollars was calculated by FedEx Ground when they decided to push toward compliance with federal and local laws. I should correct myself. It's costing me as an employer a extra $2000 a quater because I don't 1099 my local drivers at FedEx Ground and now my drivers at Panther. What...

    Self Imposed Deadhead

My drivers have there taxes paid in by me, so that saves them $4000.00 a year. Second they do not pay for fuel. ( I give them Wright Express cards). Third they do not pay for any tolls. I think they have a pretty good deal.

    Self Imposed Deadhead

I have a deal that the drivers are to drive no more then ten miles to the nearest truck stop after the delivery. One of my teams called me yesterday and asked if they should move 50 miles to Atlanta because eleven loads a day were going out and only one from where they were. I told them no...

Are things picking up over there where you are?

I wish that weekends would be more busy. Sitting after a load on Friday means that your going to be there for the weekend. If your lucky you will catch a load early on Friday that delivers on Sat. Most of the time it's pick up and wait a day or two before driving. I guess it's worth the wait...

    Get Involved

Hi PJ. I would say I am doing better. I finally got a team into one of my trucks. I took a beating the first month because I had a guy go through orientation and quit. By the time I got another body in that truck the thing broke down on it's first load with my company. I am trying to recover...

    Get Involved

Fuel surcharges actually do a good job at covering the fuel. I think lower volume of shipments is what is hurting the expediting freight industry. What I find is it is harder to find the milage these days. My solo driver came within a 100 miles of my team. They finished at 1517 for the solo...

    Federal Trucking Bailout

Hi Greg, Actually I am far from from a left wing guy. I have never voted for a democrat in my life time. I just believe that people are having a lot more trouble paying bills because of the price of fuel. Many people are defaulting on loans and credit cards and thats why banks are not...

    Federal Trucking Bailout

What needs to be done is large trucking companies meeting with CEO's of the large oil conglomerates. Oil companies are acting like anti Americans right now because they are the only business that is making good profit at this time. It's not just diesel prices either it everything from lay offs...

    panther average pay per mile

Straight Truck D units 20-24ft pay 1.20 a mile and a extra five cents if you have a lift gate and another five cents if you have a team in the truck. Max $1.30 until you get into elite services. I have had fuel surcharges from .22 cents a mile to over $2.00 per mile.

    Fleet owner observation

Another observation is that so many drivers want to be solo's. They are limited in how many miles they can do and never get into elite services. Plus it's very hard for the owner to make any money on the deal. Like I said in another post I am trying to give this industry a fair shake. I had a...
