The funny thing is some people are different. I just got off the phone with a guy that was happy as hell to gross $600 dollars a week. I guess things are pretty bad in Ohio? On the other hand I have a driver that thinks he should be making $1000 dollars a week and taking home at least $800 dollars.

That 56% is just the load advance that Panther gives. They will get the rest less two weeks worth of truck payment since it's biweekly and I will also keep some money to keep the truck up.

First of all thats my last resort. Second most of these drivers would have their own truck if they could get financing. Third going from 30K to 40K to 60 to70K a year would make them very happy. On the corporate end nothing would change. I would still be the owner. The driver would get all 56%...

Hi Greg I appricate the advice. I will keep it in mind. I think things are going to workout. On the weeks that he does good milage I will make decent money and weeks like last week I won't make much.

Van Man your right about quality over quantity. I am looking at it from a drivers prospective. I am considering four options and I just might try them all. first option is keep things how they are and take the good weeks with the bad weeks. The second option is to pay all miles that are...

Small carriers is an idea, but do they get the loads like Panther? I don't think changing carriers is a very good idea. It seems the weekends are slow. My driver got a load on Friday that would have brought his weekly miles up to 1475. The problem is it's not going to be dropped off until...

I could not agree more Dave. I think I got frustrated with FedEx ground because it takes years to build up a fleet. No routes are available now and if you want to get a new one you have to pay one years sales for the route. I have four P/D routes that I paid nothing for and your still not going...

Dave you have the experience, so I take your advice seriously. I am doing really well over at FedEx Ground so if I can't make the money in Expediting, I will either have the drivers take over the payments or I will offer owner financing so someone else can live their dreams.

Dave you have been a fleet owner a long time. What type of units do you run with Panther and are they mostly teams? How do you decide when to pass on a load? Thanks, Eric

The FL-70 is still on it's five year 500K Extended Warranty. It was purchased new late in 2004. The truck is a model year 2000 but was not sold for another four years. The truck is going to average about 70K a year and it has 300K miles on it now. I deal with Bobby Snyder down at Fyda...

When I bought the trucks I got two year 200K protection on the engines, trany and rear axles. I hope the engines do go before the end of that time.

One more thing ice... Is that 40% before or after fuel surcharge. My truck gets $1.25 a mile at Panther. Those that asked about my trucks. I have a 2003 CL-120 with Cummins ISX engine. 10 speed auto shift with lift gate. 22ft box. DVD,TV,Microwave,Refridge and Stereo. My other truck is a...

Greg might have the best advice so far, but I already bought the trucks. Ice, I did the math with the 40%-60% and I made about $300 dollars this week with that calculation. That is before any truck repairs. I made about $580 dollars using the milage method of .45 cents. Both dollar amounts are...

We are retooling our plan. The driver is in town today to pay his rent and we are meeting for lunch. I think the key is to refuse loads under 300 miles because between loading docks you lose to much hours of service. He's averaging about 50 minutes at each dock and he gets there to early most...

He gross $479.25 and netted $376.48. I pay for everything. Thats straight income at .45 cents a loaded mile. He recieved another load at the end of the pay period, but the delivery is not until Monday at eight A.M. I could not include that in this pay period. That would have given him another...

You asked why I make my drivers employees. I do it because under R.I the independent contractor has to work for more than one person and bring his own assets to the job. Plus drivers appreciate that they don't have to worry about spending their tax money. I am pretty sure the laws above are the...

LOL.. never thought of that. I wasted $100 dollars getting that powersteering hose looked at. The mechanic called me up and said the truck had nothing wrong with it and the splash guard was rubbing a bit, but he could turn the wheel with two fingers.

Yeah it was weird because he was at Orientation on time every day and even returned to the truck. This guy has been out of work a while and he drove 100 miles each way for four days. After he reported the problem to me I said I would get it fixed and he never returned my phone calls after that.
