    How's business

Half of the business is attitude, the other half is picking the right company, enough cash reserves whether driving for yourself, or someone else. And of course, if buying equipment, don't get in over your head. If you are able to run as a team, you will do better than running as a single...

    Turning motor down?

I agree with Glen. I would call cummins on this as the ISX engine may be set up different. With the EGR system, changing the computer may effect performance in places you don't want. Weave is right in doing what he did on his engine, but with the new computers and engines,it could be different.

    Cats on the road

I quess the advantage of a van versas a house is that you can take the van to the car wash, open the back doors and spray it out. Still scary:7

    Tri State Expediting

we had experienced a less than thrilling experience with Tri-State. I was under the impression they had made some strides to address alot of these issues after we had left. Maybe some atmospheres can't be changed?

    engine

I agree with Taz. Internationals are much cheaper to rebuild, but cat out performs them. Better torque and no match when it comes to top end.

    What do you think?

According to them they operate in a regional area. I think you are right in asking what their definition is of a backhaul. Is that everything outside of that region? 70 percent of what? (70 percent of nothing is still nothing) It would be to their advantage to list some realistic numbers. I...

    New drivers just saying hello!!

I know what you mean. We had a delivery in Laredo and wound up sitting all weekend because we were at the wrong address. They kept trying to find the broker who didn't arrive until Monday at another address. On the upside, we got detention and layover pay. That was about three weeks ago. I don't...

    Straight Truck versus Tractor Trailer?

There are quite a few companies that do a shower and bathroom ect. in a 96" sleeper. Quite a few were at the Mid America show. Since you are with Panther I can tell you we have had no problems with running. We run a 125" sleeper and a 18 ft box. I can only think of a couple of times where we had...

Is it really that slow out there?

my personal preference would be Panther,Fedex or Landstar. Just remember, talk to as many drivers as you can before you jump. Alot of companies are struggling to find drivers and you may encounter some giving you unrealistic expectations. Drivers at times may stretch the facts as well, but there...

    Cats on the road

We have two pomeranians and they are a joy to have along. One was several years old before traveling, but adapted quite well. We are not too experienced with cats or litter boxes. 5 cats? ewww! I think you would need more than air freshener! As listed, you do need up to date records to enter...

Is it really that slow out there?

Expo show is a great idea. You will talk to alot of expedite companies, but more inportantly the drivers. You can size up the recruiter comments, and see if the drivers match. Don't get discouraged though, there are some companies out there that do deliver.

Short of one experience, we have never been stuck. On that one occassion we were parked on a hill with ice and could only go forward. We hooked up a hose to our hot water tank and melted the ice. Kinda cheating I quess. If you are running lugs on the rear you shouldn't get stuck. If you need...

Is it really that slow out there?

Are we really back to this ghost rider thing? This has got to be one of the most ignorant ideas going. Why would someone take that many risks to themselves, their career, and everyone around them. You are certainly not the one I want following me down the freeway after you have driven way beyond...

very smart to scale at those numbers. I knew that if you were not over on the front, you would be very close. What kind of new truck are you shooting for? Look forward to hearing about it when you get it.

It may not be the gross weight that would be an issue. But at your described weight, you could be over in some instances on one of your axles. Depending on your truck and load configuration, you could scale that weight. But, if your box was completely full with that suggested weight, I would bet...

    tool boxes

I read a post and it got me thinking. We have the aluminum tool boxes and while they don't leak, they do get at times, condensation in them. I have to spray some of the tools with WD or they will eventually rust up. Do the fiberglass ones do this as well? Or is there a good way to eliminate the...

    New drivers just saying hello!!

You say that you live in Northern Florida. What part? We live in Flagler Beach. We probably have that part a little easier as we are a team. Sometimes getting out of FL is harder than getting in. The sure fire loads are in SC if we want to head north quickly ect. If you are new, it does seem...

I think BigBusBob is right on the money. If your truck already has a tag or you are buying a used truck with that on it, you are in great shape. You do have to watch when you spec that into a new purchase. Not only the cost of the axle is there, but higher insurance, higher purchase tax...
