    removing old decals

I have used a heat gun. Some glue will remain, and I used goof off. Find it at Home depot, Lowes, and probably WM. Heat gun should get the largest portion off. When they re-decal a 53' trailer, that is usually how they do it.

It probably depends on the state you are in. Most multi-line insurance agents will sell it, or will know who does. I believe it was last year, that they overhauled the MSA plan. I will have to check as the name of the plan has changed as well. It is not called MSA anymore, but something else...

My understanding is that they get .58 percent of the load, and pay the fuel. I am assuming they are in a straight truck. Most owners are running 60/40 split or 65/35 if driver is paying the fuel. Not sure how the 58 percent came about. Loads are clearly easier out west with a straight truck or...

    What do you think?

As a starting point I think you provided some good information. To help in your recruiting efforts it would help you to probably mention what miles a team and or singles do weekly, and what part of that is empty miles. Do you pay for empty miles? What is your average fuel surcharge, and is it...

    Health Insurance

I would look for a MSA. (medical savings account) The costs initially may be higher, but your savings are used for your deductible. As you continue to build your savings account, increase you deductible. As that increases, your insurance premuims will drop. Anything in your MSA can be used for...

I put a post in the general relating to accepting empty moves. As far as going out west, depending on what you are driving, California is not a problem for us. Anything north of that, I refuse unless a return trip is booked at the same time. They do get loads out of CA, but if there are too many...

If they request you to move 2000 miles via the QC, I would not have accepted it. Even from the west coast, I would not DH back 2000 miles. At a bare minumum you could have found a broker load. If you are buying the fuel, why would the owner get such a high percentage of your DH pay? I wouldn't...

It sounds like you are starting to get into a situation. Consider that you are still making some money even though it may not be enough. If a company is not responding to you then research someone else. I am assuming that you cash reserves are not to deep. For that reason, tread carefully so you...

    Fuel Costs and Surcharges

Our surcharges have climbed with the fuel prices. There are a couple of accounts that had remained unchanged. On the other side of that, our DH pay has increased several times but not quite as fast as the current fuel priced. If declining fuel prices continue, we will be in good shape on paid DH...

    truck loans

I am not aware as to whether you can get a commercial loan through VA. If it is possible, compare their program to a SBA loan. There is a bunch of paperwork involved with a SBA loan, but the rates will be more favorable. Keep in mind as well that if you are coming in as a inexperienced driver...

    FAST

took 8 months to get application back. Interview at the border was about 1 hour. Not only can you use the fast lanes, but if you have to go inside to customs, you go to the front of the line with the card.

    Tri State Expediting

"I want to be treated like a number" That clearly doesn't work for me. I don't want their load decisions based on a average of other drivers. Some of those drivers may be poor performers. I want the carrier to know that when they call us, we deliver, without a bunch of complications and...

I hope people are getting the message to educate themselves as much as possible before signing on with a company. Keep in mind also that who was good last year, may not be this year. Look for consistancy. With a broker based company it would seem there are more challenges as you have to develop...

    Hello Everyone

Vans are quite abit different than TT ect. I would advise you to put it on with a Expedite Company. Most of their loads are through their own accounts or logistic companies. If you go it alone, you will have to find your own accounts to keep it running. Old fashion door banging. Teacel who is on...

    What do you think?

These backhauls that they are referring to are probably broker based loads. There "regular" loads are probably through a logistic company or their own accounts. If for example, if you wind up in a area that a load can't be located through the above two examples, they are going to a broker or a...

I think Lawrence has the best solution going. Attend the Expo and talk to as many companies as you can, and their drivers. Strong emphasis on the latter. CB had indicated they changed his contract on three occasions. If that indeed is true, some legal advise may be advised. I don't think it...
