which companys do I need to steer clear from

I would stick with the bigger companies as they would have the resourses to get you out of slower areas or the south. As Terry mentioned, go to the Expo and talk to the drivers and recruiters so you can get an informed decision. Most are great people and very approachable. If that is not an...

    Hot Shotting

Most of the work hauling campers and trailers is not that lucrative. If you are seriously into the hotshot work, you need to be in Texas or maybe Louisiana. Most of that work entails hauling parts and equipment for the oil companies. I enjoyed alot of success with this when we use to live in Texas.

    Miles Teams Make... Week, Month

It is easier to explain how certain numbers are generated (via phone conversation) If I just list numbers with no explanations, they could be misleading. A new person to the industry for example, can't use the numbers of one who is experienced. It would give unreal expectations to someone just...

    Sprinter Vans any good?

It seems like the Sprinter is more of a concept vehicle. Seems like alot of complaints with EGR valves ect. I wonder if anyone has this vehicle and has not had problems with it?

Lease agreement for drivers of O/O

I think you hit on the most critical. Honesty, keeping up the equipment, some business as well as common sense, solid background and reputation, and a desire to work and succeed. Might want to add, the ability to work independently. Many folks are hard workers, but can't perform without...

    Miles Teams Make... Week, Month

Those numbers can vary greatly from company to company. Some will tell you 4 to 5 thousand and some will tell you 5 to 6 thousand. Keep in mind that it is not always the miles you are turning, but what are you making on the miles you turn. You have too much information to answer in one sitting...

Lease agreement for drivers of O/O

I see alot of good points. There are issues regarding distinctions from employee to contract driver. In addition, I draw a major difference between someone who has driven for years with a proven track record, versus someone just starting, or with limited experience. The owner does have to absorb...

Lease agreement for drivers of O/O

I stand corrected. Fuel surcharge should be paid by who ever is paying for the fuel. Detention time should go straight to the driver. I have never taken a percentage of it. Thanks for catching that.:)

    Who Drives for an O/O???

The idea of a lease agreement is good. However, putting together a generic one is tough. Biggest reason is that benefits, operational variances ect. would be different for each company. For example; You could not take an agreement drawn up for FedEx and use it at Panther. Companies are too...

Lease agreement for drivers of O/O

You should always have a lease agreement that spells out everything to the driver and owner. 350 week seems like a tough number in todays climate. It would be benificial to have your own comcard and be able to pull 50% of the load once it is accepted. A owner should be able to set this up with...

    Proper etiquette for the Expediter

I should mention, that most NO TRUCK signs are genearated by drivers leaving urine bottles and trash, rather than just the single issue of a truck parked on there lot. If we are addressing manners, this is a big one. Pick up your own garbage!

    Proper etiquette for the Expediter

Sometimes one can run into the unforseen. If I was out of hours and it was a decision between a Wal-Mart lot or driving illegal, it would be the Wal-mart lot everytime. Since I am a customer, I have no guilt in using their lot if nessessary. We have only been ask to leave a Wal-Mart once. It...

    Log Books and Fuel Reciepts

Great advise. Hey Rich, does that CTI bank card give cash value or points? Just curious. Not a fan of comdata. Too expensive to use.

    Proper etiquette for the Expediter

I think RichM is using it at the Wal-Mart only. And if he had for example an electrical extension cord, he can legally write his own BOL. BOL do not specifically have to come from a shipper. It would be the same if you are moving something for a relative. You can generate a BOL and have it...
