    Thinking Good Thoughts About DaveKC

A while ago in another topic, I forget which one, some drivers including myself talked about the mess that is made when changing oil on our Onan generators. Tight space and a shield near the horizontally-mounted oil filter makes it difficult to remove the filter without spilling oil. DaveKC...

    Class Eight Hybrid Trucks Revisited

In May, 2003, two months before Diane and I drove an expediting truck for the first time, I started a thread about hybrid trucks and wondered how long it would be before heavy-duty hybrid trucks would hit the market. "Not in our lifetime" was the collective answer of the voices of experience...

    Computer Mapping Volunteers Needed

Questions and comments about popular computer and handheld navigation programs are ongoing in the Open Forum. It occured to me to gather together a handful of expediters with their products of choice to put these products to the test. An ExpeditersOnline and/or Expedite NOW article about real...

    Check Out This Truck

Spotted this truck at TA in Ontario today when we went there for showers and then left to set up for tomorrow's pick up. The truck was buttoned up so I was unable to talk to the driver(s). The graphics and chrome on this SST-100 are the nicest I've seen on one of those "Jeff Jones specials."

Did You Renew Your HAZMAT Endorsement?

It has been a while since the new rules went into effect regarding HAZMAT endorsements (fingerprinting, background check, fee increases to cover the costs of both). Soon after the new rules were in place, a number of driver complaints were heard about the process. Some industry publications...

    Does Anybody Know This Truck?

On our way to Toronto in the middle of the night last week, we spotted this truck at a Fifth Wheel truck stop. If the drivers were inside, they were asleep so we did not bother them. It would have been fun to visit about the truck. Does anyone know who built this truck and how it is working out...

    Good Truck Wash

Got the truck washed and hand waxed today. They washed it and then hand waxed it from front to back, top to bottom, including the cab and sleeper roofs. Total cost: $145. The truck wash is located on U.S. 52 and State Highway 58 in Zumbrota, Minnesota, north of Rochester, south of Saint Paul.

Question RE FedEx Four Star Award

This is a question for the Four Star award winners. FedEx Custom Critical Four Star Award winners will be selected based on their performance from June 1, 2006 to May 31, 2007. With May 31 about a month away, I am wondering what, in ball park terms, run count number will qualify this year's top...

    Cabover Expediter

From time to time, people talk about building cabover expediter trucks. Custom built cabovers have been done. This is a photo of a custom-built cabover truck Glen Rice built in 1985. It is a 1985 Kenworth K100E. He bought the cab new for $81,000. The sleeper conversion cost $19,900. It is a...

What Will You Do If You Get Sick On The Road?

    Centramatics

Bummer today, sort of. With 108,000 miles on our truck, we replaced our first set of steer tires. While the treads had 8/32" remaining, cupping had begun. Knowing the tires had only more cupping to look forward to, and being serious about keeping our truck in tip-top condition, we replaced old...
