    ok...totally a newbie question.

The owner for whom I drive said to put antigel additive in for cold temps, so that's what I'm doing - his truck, his call, you know? Staying in a motel is a personal decision - I do it now & then, but it's really a lot of nuisance to schlep all the stuff in & out of the room, for no more...

Is there a way to supplement during down times?

That was the truck on the OTHER side! And the bulls can't dance for beans, either (I know because I peeked) :p

Is there a way to supplement during down times?

Several posters have said that UShip is full of extremely cheap freight, for folks who don't have a clue what the rates should be. I'm pretty sure the truck driver who was parked beside me yesterday supplements his income by renting the empty trailer to classes of Irish clog dancers

    wal-mart parking info

It's the same as described above, published by Cottage Time Industries - and it doesn't offer anything more than the atlas you can get at any WalMart for $5, which also lists the locations of every WalMart and Sam's Club in the 48 states, and whether they have a Tire & Lube, pharmacy, hair...

    Where did it go?

As for Panther's attitude towards safety inspections, my experience may have been an anomaly, but I think it's relevant to this discussion: when I signed on to Panther, from ConWay Now, part of the procedure was to have a vehicle inspection at Panther HQ. I gave the inspection report to the...

    Where did it go?

Maybe it looked that bad, but maybe not - maybe it was made to look better, superficially, which might not have fooled an experienced and knowledgeable person, but we are not all that. Some of us are honest, and assume others are too, until we learn otherwise, to our own detriment. Truly...

    Ohio CDL vision test

The Ohio CDL vision test consists of looking into a binocular device, and identifying the number that is embedded in a circle of dots, with the number being a contrasting color. I didn't really notice the colors used, but I'd bet they were chosen to identify color blindness. Still, what would...

    new reefer business

I am responding to the query about RichM because first, he mentioned in a recent email that he intended to take a 'hiatus' from EO for a bit, and also because I think the reference to his refusing to say where he was working casts an aspersion that he doesn't deserve. If he did say it, no doubt...

Do you have a favorite truck stop?

Danny's Big Rig Resort (well, they do have palm trees :D) in Phoenix is a great one, because you can get your truck washed, oil changed & service done, shower, and do laundry, all in one place, which is a real timesaver. Elsewhere, I like Pilot, because the coffee is worth getting up for, and...

    any roomy truck cabs?

Totally agree on the new seat - I put a high quality seat in my van, and it made a world of difference. The place where you spend so much of your working life is worth spending the $, IMO, even if it's a LOT of $ :D

    some good info

Thank you Steve, for the very good info. It can be used to self-diagnose, too - as the story about Ingrid showed, people don't always know when they've had a stroke, or cerebrovascular accident. The symptoms can be very mild sometimes, and most of us wouldn't want to believe it can happen, I...

    Hazmat ?

Crazy, since the Original Poster specified straight truck, wasn't any reason to mention logging rules for a van.

    Stoopid Noobie Tricks

Glad to hear you didn't fire him, Steve, for a dumb mistake, though you'd certainly have been entitled to deduct the fuel cost from his share - I would have. But we ALL make dumb mistakes, and here's one of mine: Left the shipper after faxing load info to Canadian broker, but without calling...

    Hazmat ?

Getting it is a bit less of a hassle if you preregister at ExpeditersOnline.com Expedited Trucking Owner Operator Careers and Truck Sales - you can pay online, and get fingerprinted at any location in the US (listed on the website), then take the test at your home BMV, as soon as you get the...

    Rookies looking to change carriers

Nightcreature usually gives good advice, but I think he goofed on this one, saying "you must go to a driving school to get your CDL" - not true! There are ways to get the CDL without forking over big bucks to a school, and several have been discussed here, like renting a truck. If you read the...

    Hazmat ?

Hazmat is a good thing to have, IMO, even if your carrier doesn't haul placarded hazmat - you still need the endorsement to have any on board. The more qualifications you have, the more loads you're eligible for, so why not?

    New Advance Policy at Panther?

Bernie; I'm truly sorry to hear of your loss - fathers are irreplaceable. I hope things get better for you very soon.

    ok...totally a newbie question.

All answers depend upon knowing whether the truck is equipped with an APU (auxiliary power unit). With it, you can have climate control, and electrical power, without running down the truck's starter batteries. The unit on my truck, as I assume others do as well, includes a battery charger, and...
