    News Coverage of Florida Crash

This is a classic case of negligence. No reason that driver should've been driving after that long without sleep. This has nothing to do with HOS, as they weren't violated. However, I see the cry for more stringent rules because 7 whelps were killed. Tragic? Yes! The driver's fault? Most likely...

This got me thinking. What's in 9 months from February??? Is there an election this year? Strange how it won't go into effect til November... ie, after election time.

Panther Straight Solo Drivers - need input

I have to agree with Ateam. A team-focused company and a solo mindset will get you a whole lot of broke. You have to be fair to Dave here, too. He may feel obligated to keep you in the truck, but is it being fair not wanting a co-driver? Maybe talk Dave into a move to a solo-oriented company. I...

    o/os

I agree that a company has no say on how or when a contractor pays his drivers. However, I think a company has an obligation to terminate that contractor if he has a history of not paying his drivers. Too many times I hear drivers getting nothing but "we can't help" from companies, who know all...

    Graduating Soon Need Advice

Responding to the original post, I have a couple of sites for you to explore, if you decide to go OTR. Most trucking companies have their issues, only some far outweigh the benefits. www.truck.net This can give you general info about what to expect on the road, in general. Also gives a...

    Fyda Freightliner

I've never had any dealings with them. But what I've noticed was that their trucks are marked up quite a bit, as compared to competitors, for basically the same equipment. I liked Middle Georgia's selection and prices, tho they never give a price on their ads. That's an immediate turn off when...

    GPS 411

I don't think there's any limit on how many trucks. Running off someone else's authority, I can say they were the bulk of my loads. Definitely worth the price. Just noticed you had a sprinter. If you're looking for just you, then it's probably not going to be worth it. Tho some van loads come...

    Wood Floor Repair

The truck I'm driving now has a hole covered by a steel plate. We took our first run yesterday, and noticed it when the guy tried sliding the skid in, and the plate nearly tore it up. Is diamond plate that thick that it would do the same thing? Or is board replacement a better option?

    RE: DeliciousV's Post

What happened to that thread? Well... I agree with everything being spelled out. I was sold a lemon with a bad tranny. Paid $4200 for a new one three months later. But it was in the contract that I was responsible for repairs. So I never went to the owner for money. On the flip side, I was...

    Fedex CC quartely newsletter

RE: FedEx CC quarterly newsletter There are a few things that I'd like to add here. I don't know what the law is in TN; but in MI, a verbal agreement IS a contract. Doing a search on the subject, I would surmise it is binding in TN as well. If, in fact, the verbal agreement was 60/40 split, a...

    Stern on Sirius

I know XM was $9.95 and they went up. I've had Sirius for over a year, and they've always been $12.95.

    SLOW TIMES

Yep... know what you mean. This particular truck was sitting the whole time we were there (2 hours). I can understand if you're running hard. But this guy's truck wasn't just dirty from a month or two of busy. It looked like it went thru a mudstorm.

    Authority

Your best bet is to do a search, here on EO. Use "authority" as your key word. There are many recent threads on the subject.

    Who's Running Good Right Now?

You hear alot about overhiring, especially during the slow months. From what I've seen though, the size of the fleets stay consistant whether it's feast or famine. You forget... companies lose trucks, so they have to put on new ones. All you're seeing are the numbers on the trucks going on. No...

T/A steps up to the plate

There's a truckstop in Italy, which is just south of Dallas on 35E. Ironically, it's called Italy Truckstop. Dusty lot, but nice and quiet when I was there. Store was clean too.

    SLOW TIMES

Tomar mentioned First Class. When Broompilot and I met up in Dearborn, there was a First Class truck sitting there. Man, was that thing FILTHY!!! I've seen a couple others on the road that weren't too hot of shape. But, on the other side, there were a couple clean, newer trucks with them too...

    Criteria For Turning Down Loads

I had to laugh at "You've gotta be kidding me" response. Terry's right tho. You can't expect to get anything good from a response like that. Similar results from the following could be expected... "I could make more working at Burger King" "I could make more being a dispatcher" (bet you'll...

Road to Detroit is paved with bird droppings!

Harrington needs a good qb coach. He never got to learn under a good veteran. But ultimately, you're right. He doesn't have an offensive line, which hurts the running game too.

    Driving for an o/o

"(1) Do these people hand you a 1099 at the end of the year or do they take out taxes??" They almost always do the 1099 thing. If they took out taxes, they'd be an employer. "(2) what might be a ball park figure for earnings for a solo, driving for an o/o?" Current ballpark is 35% for a solo...
