    International engine problems

I appreciate the replies and the warnings. Nothing is concrete as far as owning the truck. The only interest in it now is making money in it for the next 6 months or so. When that time comes, we'll weigh everything out and go from there. So we have 6 months to watch the truck fall apart or not...

Revisit of the APU 400 lb exemption

What does FXCC have to do with that anyways? Unless they're on the title, it's none of their business, unless it would interfere with freight. I'd say it's a "don't ask, don't tell" matter.

    When Strangers ask!

The first thing that came to mind was a snobbish attitude. However, being at a high security facility, I could see you saying that. On a regular load, I always ask company, and non-company drivers alike (if they are friendly enough) where they're headed. I'm curious that way, and I don't mind...

    International engine problems

I've heard that on the 2004 model Internationals, that the engines fail rather early. Apparently, half of the exhaust gets sent back into the engine as an emmisions thing. That gums up the engine and causes it to fail. Has anyone heard about this and possibly give me more info? Thanx :)

    HOw observant are you?

21! BLACKJACK! LOL I was going to say 47 for # of states, since 3 of them are commonwealths. But seeing it wasn't that kind of quiz, I went with 50 LOL Who in the heck knows campbell's soup colors? geez

    Rear end change

My nephew and I are being given a chance to take over payments on a 2004 Alumib(j)unk International 7500. Overall, it's a nice truck. But, doing some research, I've found those trucks were city trucks (possibly dump truck builds) converted into expediters. It's obvious the rear-end is made for...

    early impression on conway FSC?

Dave... I'm talking about the companies bidding on loads with a flat rate, rather than charging a per mile rate and an FSC. For example, Panther would charge a customer say $2.25/mi and .25 FSC. They could make the contract out to be $2.40/mi and .10 FSC instead. At least the way Conway seems to...

    ##### Laredo, Tx

No way I'm parking at "Paylot". There's a decent Love's about 20 mi north in Encinal. No fear for safety, yet not far from town.

Tri State's No Forced Dispatch Rule

I was told by a van driver that you have to accept one Canada run every quarter. Not too much to ask. Personally, I don't see Canada as being up there with NY and Chicago for runs ppl don't want. Some ppl just don't like the view on the 401, I guess. Broom? ;)

    Newbie Tales from the Road.

Prof... sounds like you're on the "poor trucker's diet". I lost over 25 lbs on that one. $125/wk allowance doesn't find me at Outback too much, especially when I'm buying cigs out of it. Plan on gaining some back over Easter, tho ;)

    early impression on conway FSC?

In a way, it sounds like a communist system. In other words, there's a pot, and everyone takes out an equal share. I see this working, as there's no reason to turn down a run due to FSC. On the other hand, you'll never know what Conway is getting. Personally, I'd rather take the 1500 mi Texas...

Personal use of a Commercial Vehicle

I had that same debate with an OH scale master. It's all going to depend on how they interpret the rules. The way I see it, if the DOT#s are covered, and you have a "NOT FOR HIRE" on your truck, it's a personal vehicle. However, I wouldn't try running by scales. And have your logbook with you...

    early impression on conway FSC?

It does only apply to percentage. However, if the fsc is based on a percentage of the full tarrif, and not just on your rate, you could argue that part of your profit.

    radio entertainment

As long as Sirius keeps NFL, I'll keep subscribing. I have XM in the truck I'm in, but once we switch owners next week (we fired our current one), my nephew and I are looking at getting a stereo and subscribe to both XM and Sirius. XM has some great music stations, but nothing with the NFL...

    It's time for a ban

I remember Rush talking about a humidor/restaurant he goes to. They were sitting and having a cigar with their meal, and a lady looked at them like they were criminals. I can't remember which state he was in, but it was a non-smoking state. Being that they were in a humidor, the laws didn't...

Tri State's No Forced Dispatch Rule

No way 12 hours is acceptable. Basically they're dictating to you that you aren't going to make money that day. Well... chances are, if you take that 100 mi run with a team, you aren't making money that day either. So, I'd rather do nothing for nothing than something for nothing or less. But...
