    The Lessons of Blowback

To paraphrase the wisdom of DaveKC: "It's not what you get, it's what you get to keep." ;)

More Big Brother intrusion into Business

On topic: my favorite bank defense of the new charge for using a debit card: "We have to replace the money Congress took away somehow." Except the money was 'excessive profits' - not exactly digging into their operating capital... Every time a particularly egregious practice of the banks is...

    Occupy Wall Street?

The tendency to dismiss anything and everything the 'other side' says is a large part of how we got to this point, and we're not going to work it out until the kneejerk rejection can be put aside. The OWS protests are denigrated as lacking focus and leadership - but if those were present, they'd...

    Rand McNally TND 700/710 junk?

Again, thanks, eb. I hadn't noticed the problem when the thread first appeared a year ago. I hope everyone is telling Garmin that it's a problem for us, and requesting they make the ETA an option: default/preset time, or local. If they know it's an issue, they may just fix it - customer service...

    Rand McNally TND 700/710 junk?

Thanks, eb, preciate it. My current Nuvii stays on Eastern, but when Highway Star said his newer one doesn't, I started checking. There's no way to tell which units change time zones, so if I upgrade, I'll probably get one that changes, even though I don't want it to. :(

    Rand McNally TND 700/710 junk?

I think so too. But I'm not happy about the newer models that change the ETA to reflect local time as you go through different zones, because my delivery time is Eastern time. I emailed Garmin support to ask which models don't change, and the bad news is all the new ones do. I suggested they at...

    Seasonal work?

Lack of a sleeper is a problem - expediters don't generally DH from point of delivery, [except to a better area to get the next load], which means a place to sleep is essential. Motels are not cost effective, and tired drivers make mistakes - sometimes serious ones. A lesser point is that winter...

    Another SAD Fedex driver....sob sob

Phil: point taken. However, the representation here [and at most truckstop gatherings] is very heavily skewed towards FedEx & Panther, plus Express 1, TriState, & Bolt. There just aren't that many Landstar people in the usual mix, for whatever reasons.

    The Lessons of Blowback

As long as Raymond Allen Davis & the CIA/Blackwater 'above the law' clones [they even look identical!] are the face of the United States to most civilians in other countries, it's not surprising that hatred for America is the result. What's surprising is the official attitude of condoning their...

    Romney's Mormonism an issue

Wasn't it very recently [like last week] that the same evangelical Christians were complaining of being marginalized, disrespected, and not 'PC'? Now candidates are being marginalized, disrespected, and not 'PC' because they aren't evangelical Christians? Religion has no place in government!!!
