    headset (bluetooth)

Pervert. With "that" said. Highway liked his expressway so much that I bought one too. The option of hanging it from your ear is completely worthless as the unit is just too big and heavy, it falls sideways and the boom falls away from your face...so it's useless. The other option is the...

    Phil made the jump

I agree with Phil on this point. It is a common practice and given the freight that is transported in that division, FDXCC has a responsibility to protect themselves as well as their customers. I'm sure Phil and Dianne would have conducted themselves professionally, but I'm also sure that others...

Maintenance Costs For A 2004 Cargo Van

How much do you guys figure to be enough for a maintenance fund? With the ST I like to have at least $5k and prefer $10k. I would think 2-5k is enough for a van?

own authority straight truck pay when dealing with agents

No, I doubt it's OVM. I just thought I'd yank his chain since he's not here to defend himself :)

own authority straight truck pay when dealing with agents

If I were you, I would start at $1 per mile plus a fuel surcharge of .07 per mile and negotiate down from there. You'll do real good :)

Do straight truck have to keep a log book

I've heard a lot of debate about this subject over the years. I am just leased to a company and THEY (dirty rotten rascals) require logs. If I were in southernboi's situation, I believe I would just run without 'em and find out. If you do, please keep us informed as to how it works out for you...

    cpm gas vs diesel

The air mattress is all you need. I would try to figure out a way to get a curtain or something up though. Just something that is temporary and removable will do and hopefully get it to where the a/c could keep up. You've got a couple of hot months coming up. You need good sleep during the day...

    cpm gas vs diesel

Have you considered using a heavy blanket or something to partition off part of the van and keep the front cool while your sleeping? Out of everything you mentioned this would bother me the most. You have to get good comfortable sleep in this business to be able run overnight loads safely...

    cpm gas vs diesel

To further address this. It all depends on where the freight is and what it's paying. If your sitting 100 miles from home in a bad freight area...and their is good paying freight at home, then their may be options. If your 100 miles from home in a good freight area and your home is not near good...

    cpm gas vs diesel

He is definitely spread too thin, but most small carriers are. It takes a long time for them to find, hire and train "good" dispatchers. That does effect your income and once you become o/o, it will be even more important, but at least for now I would stick with it and learn the ropes as long as...

Late to the FedEx \ TVAL Party?

I gotta agree with OVM (gritting my teeth). You have to start somewhere. One man's loss is another man's gain and working with the fleet your going with, there is a good chance you'll see plenty of freight. Friends of mine are still doing well with WG TVAL. And yes, they are stomping and...

    cpm gas vs diesel

I almost always drop and stop as near as possible. You'll find that there are loads where you wouldn't expect. But, with that said. If I unload in the am and they don't have another load by 7 or 8 pm that night, I call dispatch and ask if they get loads out of the area. If they say no, I head...
