    Ever think of Incorporating

Florida makes it very easy to incorporate. Just go to www.sunbiz.org - Home. Everything you need to do is on there. My last business was a Chapter S corp. Since it is just myself and wife in this business we operate as sole proprietors. No real tax advantages to make it worthwhile to...

Asking for load/rate over qc before taking

I trust my local shop, North Florida Truck Parts, here in Lake City so much that I had an air bag changed out last week without asking for an estimate. They charged me $227. My truck has a non standard air bag. After reading your post I called the Freightliner dealer across the street and got a...

Asking for load/rate over qc before taking

I once ate in a small restaurant that had no prices on the menu. The waitress said "pay what you think it was worth, we trust you". I later read a story about the same restaurant that said 85% of the people over paid by about 50%. Sometimes trust is a good thing.

    Lock out

I think there will still be a season. There are to many billions of dollars at stake for them not to be able to work it out.

Questions for those operating under their own authority

Thanks for the answers and good points Phil. I asked this question because I owned a construction business for 23 years. (Windows and hurricane shutters) I normally worked 40-45 hours per week on the job site and then spent evenings giving free estimates. Late nights were spent ordering...

    last years rates

We run surface team. Our rate per mile is up a little over last year. We still get a lot of low paying load offers. Mostly "B" loads. Our average run is 700 miles. We have been busy so far this year.:)

Which State is best to relocate to?

North Central Florida, near I 10 and I 75. Property is cheap, crime is low, taxes are low and it's like moving back 30 years in time and attitude. Seasons do change here. Winter temps drop into the teens. Florida has no state income tax. Sales tax in this area is 6.5%. State sales tax is 6%...

Questions for those operating under their own authority

How much of your time is spent on operating under your own authority? I'm not talking about the driving part, I'm talking about the time you spend finding a load, getting set up with the customer, sending out bills, collecting past due monies, etc. All the things you would not have to do if you...

How many days are u sitting at one location

We sit a maximum of 2 days not including weekends. We normally will not stay in a known dead area longer than it takes to get a shower and meal. After 24 hours if we find ourselves in a very slow area we will ask planning to move us to an active area. Sometimes, when accepting a load, we will...

    Recruiting spam

I didn't get the FedEx one, but I do get one from Panther about once every two weeks. I don't get mad or upset about spam or unwanted e mails. I just delete them and go on with my day. Besides, if it weren't for spam and e bills I wouldn't get any mail at all.

FedEx Custom Critical ???? Are they what they say they are??

For us dispatch works like this: We get a load opportunity over the phone or C Link. We evaluate it to see if it is good for our business needs. (Pay, delivery location, etc.) We accept it if it is good for us, wait to see if we got the run, and if we did get the run, we get the run info and do...

FedEx Custom Critical ???? Are they what they say they are??

This has been our experience: We have never had a dispatcher demand we do a run we didn't want. We have had them try to convince us with more money. There is no place that we will not go if the pay is high enough. (High enough to justify deadheading to an active express center.) As soon...

    Fed Ex CC van drivers

I'm curious. Who is going to pay a van $1.25 per mile? I think the current rate at FedEx is $.85 plus FSC which is $.1667. That comes out to $1.0167. And that's for loaded miles.

    my time soon

I just stuffed myself. It was prime rib day and I remember how impressed I was with the quality of there food. It's a shame that somebody would take advantage of the hospitality of the company by stuffing their fridge.

It's called the Lake City Reporter. It doesn't come out on Mondays because Sunday is church day and no one is expected to work. We moved here 3 years ago from Cocoa Beach and moved back in time 30 years. The whole town is on 90 right off I75. Get a mile away and you are in the country. Around...
