    Looking into start expiditing

Sort of, it is actually worse than that, you just ran 600 miles for $1/mile instead of the offered 300 miles for $2 a mile. (Edited to add or 300 miles for $1, that would be 1/2 as painful!)

    It's a Team's Life Driver Pay

I would settle for a $9000 a month salary, that is abut $30/hr for 70 hours a week. If you didn't produce safe miles, then the company would fire you, doubt too many drivers would quit at that rate. You solve the quality and the driver "shortage" (turnover really) all at once, the shippers and...

TT total weight has to be 80k lbs or less...what about straight truck?

Some of the bigger straights with a drop axle are actually over weight on the steers even empty, just too much weight with a big sleeper. Usually get by with it because usually axle and tires usually don't get scunitized at the scale house.

"It Depends" Not every carrier is right for every contractor, I don't know that anybody can answer that question, I know who my top three carriers are after reading these forums for a few years, but a lot depends on how you want to run, your home location, type of vehicle, solo or team, etc. I...

    conway sale

Until 1983 Conway was part of Consolidated Freightways, I guess the spin offs and mergers are just continuing. From a 2001 article I found this: "We've taken the Con-Way NOW business model of asset-light use of independent business owners and high technology for shipment management and applied...

    STAY SAFE DRIVERS

Sorry for your loss, really no excuse for this, it comes down to just not making driving the vehicle and the safety of yourself and everyone around you the priority where you are piloting a vehicle.

TT total weight has to be 80k lbs or less...what about straight truck?

More likely quite a bit less, no way possible to legally get over 54,000 on a three axle truck and that would be with a heavy front axle and tires, the more likely scenario is 46,000, 12K on steer and 34K on a tandem drive axle. To answer the OP, not much scaling needed unless you just want to...

Appeals Court Finds FedEx Ground Misclassified Kansas Drivers

From Land Line — August/September 2015 http://browndigital.bpc.com/display_article.php?id=2226020&id_issue=266759 (looks like you need a login to view this article), the summary is this: The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled recently that nearly 500 drivers in Kansas were misidentified as...

An example where deadhead isn't offered to be paid: You get offered a 300 mile load for $2.00 a loaded mile, it is 300 miles away from your current location, so now you have to drive 600 miles to deliver the load, your all in miles rate just went to $1.00 per mile. What may have been a good deal...

For cooling I am liking the looks of the Bergstrom - NITE No-Idle which is the OEM supplier for FL ParkSmart systems and other OEM's, couple that with a eNow Energy Solutions for Transportation, Solar panels for your trucking fleet system and then add on a heater from Eberspaecher - Truck...

    Looking into start expiditing

Those are the million dollar questions everyone wants to have answers to, here it is: "it depends"! Almost all expedited is via contractor (with few exceptions), so self employed, if you don't own a vehicle, then sub contracted to someone who does, so still self employed, you pay ALL the taxes...

    Paying taxes as a subcontractor?

Yes you have to pay, best advice I can give is consult a tax professional, will be worth it in the long run.

    Full Synthetic Oil?

Unless Mobile 1 or ANY other oil meets the Mercedes euro specifications, I would be a little cautious running it in a Sprinter. My POV is a VW TDI, that specifies an oil that very few if any USA based oil companies sell, I run a full synthetic European brand oil because the TDI's are prone to...

Big Truck Question for semi owners...

You need to be aware that if you show more than 50% income from dividends that it can be a red flag for audit. I have had my business set up as a S-Corp for years, my CPA advises to take no more than the 50-50 split to keep the IRS at bay. Sure you may get by with it, but why wave a red flag?

Big Truck Question for semi owners...

Independent Contractor (Self-Employed) or Employee? I have seen quite a few driver positions that probably should be W2 and not 1099, the IRS takes a dim view if you get it wrong.

Self-Driving 'Crash' Trucks to Hit FL Highways This Year

Trains kind of run remotely, when you have distributed power (engines front, mid and rear), the only humans are up front, the other engines are controlled remotely wirelessly. All of the switching and signaling is done from an operations center someplace, so lots of automation. I see the same...

Would like to know what the largest size straight truck there is ....

By the use of the word "transport", I am going to assume you live in Canada, the longest straight truck is 12.5 meters (41.0 feet) for all of Canada, generally accepted maximum length for all US states and Canada is 40 feet. About the largest sleeper you will find on a straight truck is 120-132"...

    It's a Team's Life A date with a train

Linda, I have seen the Loram grinders in action, pretty impressive sparkler show! Back in I think 2012 time frame I interviewed with them, pretty low pay and long hours, I had decided I probably didn't want to work for them, but they made the call and said no thanks, OK, no problem... Anyway, in...
