Anyone ever lose a load because they had a pet in the truck with them?

My dog stays at home so I have not run into this problem but I have delivered to several locations that prohibit any pets on their property. These were mainly food production locations but once at an aluminum plant there was a sign prohibiting pets. Since the atmosphere of the plant was not...

    expedite van comparison

My son is a gear head who records that show each week so I saw that episode. I loved it. Dustin was interested when I told him that the show was coming to america but he was very disappointed when I told him one of the stars would be Adam Carolla. I can only guess Adam doesn't have "street cred"!

    Plastic Pipe Bunk

When I was researching making a loft bed one of the plans used PVC instead of wood/metal for the bed frame. I think its a great idea and if you don't glue all the joints (they stick pretty good either way) you can take it apart if you need the room for an especially large load.

    When To Stop

Last night in returning to Saint Louis from Pennsylvania I came across two accidents. The first had firefighters directing traffic and several police vehicles on hand. The second accident must have have just occurred, though, as there were no firefighters or ambulances around and only two...

    Why such Doom and Gloom

You need to state how you plan to operate before anyone can give you an estimate. What type vehicle do you plan to operate? What type company do you hope to work for? These are just a few of the details that make a big difference in what kind of replies you will receive.

    "Buying" into a Van?

I thought most people leased the QC. If so then it would not be included with the purchase of a vehicle as it would have been returned when they left the carrier. If it was included you would expect the seller to factor it into the price. As for the signage, if it matches the company you...

    "Buying" into a Van?

I believe he is asking if there is any advantage to buying a van that has already been in service with one of the expediting companies. This is, as he stated, often mentioned in the classifieds as an implied benefit. I would think you should just get the best deal you can on a van that meets...

    Just Rewards

A rewards credit card is used to purchase fuel. Are the rewards taxable as income? Do the credit card companies report them to the IRS as such? Would an annual fee be a deduction? If the reward is used to purchase something for the truck would that offset the income aspect? Finally, what...

    Bayou Blues

If Mick Jagger were driving in Louisiana today instead of singing "Its a gas, gas, gas" he would be singing "I can't get no satisfaction". My son made a delivery this morning to Baton Rouge and he tells me that many of the gas stations are out of fuel. He finally found some at a truck stop...

    College Football

The halftime score was 31-13 so I guess I was "half right" in my prediction. I never saw the 52-42 result coming. The offense was a joy to watch until the injury scare to Maclin but the word is today that he will be fine. They defense needs to tighten up a bit but in the end a victory is a...

    College Football

I have been waiting 242 days for the return of college football and in my case, the Missouri Tigers. Today they play Illinois in St Louis. It should be a great game. Last year I think Illinois kind of snuck up on the Tigers and made it close. This year all the hype on Missouri sets up either...

    Questions

There was a post recently by a lady who claimed to have raised 3 kids in the back of a truck. I believe she was trying to sell a book about her experiences. While this might sound inspirational to some to me its borderline child abuse. It sounds like you are in a tough spot and I wish you...

    Equipment recommendations

I think its important to keep your expenses low when you are starting out. A cell phone with a good roaming plan is a necessity. Satellite radio could wait, especially til they come out with new radios that will be able to receive both XM and Sirius. At this time such devices are not available.

    Driving Music

I tend to do a lot of hitting the scan button on the FM radio. Depending on where I am pretty much determines what I find. I am happiest when I find rock n roll, especially hair bands and rock ballads. Its also cool when you're in Louisiana as you are sure to have a cajun station or two. I...
