    Cargo Van Cafe'

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. For me, in 900 miles I can make up enough time for a couple of naps and still be early for delivery. I don't know, this is their rule, but what bugs me a lot is that I got offered a 714 miles run and they would not let me do it. They had to split...

    Cargo Van Cafe'

Yep, it is really tight right now. I came back in service last Wednesday, that is a week and a day now, after replacing my water pump, and all I got offered was a <75 load that I accepted but someone else got it. And I am the second one in line with a <75 status van behind me. So this together...

    Conference call with Jason Frederick

The troubling part was his comment that this year is going to be about the same what we have seen so far, maybe we will see some freight picking up in August, September and October. But we should get used to what we see now. Hopefully we can survive this year. I really appreciate their trying...

    advice sought on expediting

Just keep your 50k a yar job. Man, if I would find a 30k a year job I would leave expediting and sleep in a real bed every night.

    location

Man, they are running you hard. It's been a while since my people ran me like that. As a matter of fact, I have come back in service last wednesday (after I relpaced my water pump) and been sitting at home in Atlanta since then. Yesterday I got an offer of a <75 load, which I accepted, but...

    A b?

I tried to figure this out, but so far I wasn't able. Normally you would think that A loads are smaller, and pay less, while B loads are bigger, and pay more. Well, I had A loads that were bigger than B loads I carried, then I had A loads that paid more money than some B loads.

    Conference call with Jason Frederick

For those that were on the conference call this morning, what do you think about the things discussed? Just a reminder, there is still a chance to get on. Every top of the hour until 3 pm or so.

OVM, I think you are correct here. Greed comes to mind.

How do I know if i should do the load

Haha, I get you, unfortunately I don't have the luxury of a codriver or 30 years, but you are right, some of the names I don't have to look them up any more...:D I think I did not understand the first part of your comment. After I deliver, I don't get paid .85 a mile. It is .15 after the...

    How picky are vans?

I would definitely be all over that load for $500. However, my rate now is .85 a loaded mile + 6.3 cents /mile fuel surcharge. So at $430 for this load, I would have to think if I want to do it, since I never got anything out of orlando, and I have been sitting there a few times. I think it...

How do I know if i should do the load

nightcreacher, I got a question for you. How do you calculate all these things in the 10 minutes you are given to make a decision? I mean, you have the deadhead and loaded miles, but then you need to know what express center is the best to layover after delivery. Most of the time I have never...

    Handicapped

Man, I don't think Flattop is judging anybody. He was wondering how a handicapped person is able to jump up and down from the flatbed. He even said that he didn't think about the situation when the handicapped person has a codeiver that does all the jumping. Just chill.

Stimulus Adds to the Wlefare Rolls!!

I believe that those that don't work should not eat, like it says in the Bible. Also, I believe that the government doesn't have any business with welfare, stimulus, bailout ..... The 2 things that the government should be concerned about are the military and the police, nothing else. But that...

    Favorite Truck stop brand

I like different truck stops for different activities. For laying over: Petro - because of the movie theater For fuel/shower: Flying J - because I get 1/2 shower free with 20 gallons fuel purchase (I have a 26 gallon tank, so the free shower with 50 gallons does not work for me) Food: Wal Mart...

What Does Your Carrier OWE You?

I do this sometimes. After I get the load info on the qualcomm I send a free message with a 'thank you for the load'. Sometimes I get a response back, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I even get a 'thank you for accept' message after the load info. I have been with 2 carriers so far, and both are...

lease prchase cargo van or sprinter?

Let's see. I drove my Sprinter for 260k. I get consistently 25 miles/gallon of diesel. After some calculations that I will not bore you with, I saved 7000 gallons of fuel over someone that gets 15 miles/gallon on a gas van. If you consider diesel at only $2 a gallon, I saved $14000 so far. I...

What is the strangest load that you did as an expediter?

About a year ago I took a $75,000 diamond ring from Atlanta to Memphis. Paid very good. I had to wait about an hour in the parking lot for them to arrange payment before I could deliver. It was a young guy that I delivered it to. Just hope she said yes, since that is a lot of money there.

10,000 More Jobs to be Cut at GM

Nissan cuts 20000, but not in the US yet. Nissan to slash 20,000 jobs and sees annual loss - Kansas City Star To be honest, I always wanted to buy american products. I owned a few Fords as well as a Honda and a few Volkswagens. American cars don't come anywhere close in quality with the...
