Do H/W teams prosper in Sprinters?

ChopChop, Excellent post, thank you very much for your honest input here on the site. Many people will benefit from your clear cut honesty. Best Wishes - Scott

    O/O status with a company

Joebob, You mentioned all the factors that make a difference - but there really is no official "scorecard". Load planners are people - and people have better memories than computers sometimes. People like to work with other "NICE" people. If you are user friendly, then there should be no...

Forget to use dolly / landing gear

Tony, The air bags are located on the rear suspension at the location where you'd find the rear coil springs on an old hot rod. If your bags are damaged you may hear them hissing when the truck is turned off. You'll hear the slow leak just like a tire going down. Hope this helps - Scott

Perhaps this post should be re-named "when good moderators go bad".

Wait....wait.... We forgot the part about the 22 inch gold rims with low profile Goodyear Eagles. Oh, and a really cool graphics package. Sweet.

    Fantasy Sprinter C Unit

I've actually looked into this somewhat... Daimler Chrysler is very picky about anything being done to modify sprinters. A modification such as this would raise the center of gravity beyond their set limits - thus voiding any and every bit of warranty on anything on the vehicle. Also... By...

I'm back and looking at expediting again

Grasshopper, Be sure to go with a company whose trucks you see fairly regularly on the west coast. Some expediters have a fairly strong west coast presence, others do not. Be sure to ask about this when speaking to recruiters. Not all companies are cali-friendly. Best Wishes - Scott

    Getting started

Sancman, I don't want to ruin your day, but putting those kind of restrictions on where you run will not look good to a fleet owner. A fleet owner will be looking for a go getter that will make him as much revenue as possible with his equipment. The freedom that comes with being an owner...

    The birth of Driver

Mugg, One of the greatest things about being an expediter is getting to have a lot of control over your work schedule. Keep in mind, however, that putting restrictions on where you need to be and when you need to be there will more than likely affect your revenue. To say it simply, the way to...

Can I make it w/ a 24' truck? Is it worth it?

Noah, Yes there is a demand for a 24' truck in today's market, but the real key to success is being a super-smart business person. Understand that to succeed nowadays you'll need to work harder than in years past. Do your homework, Have some start up capital, find a truck that fits your budget...

    New HOS article

I think that there should be a special interest group consisting of people interested in being able to make their living without constant badgering by other special interest groups (most of which are neither special nor interesting anyway). That's all I've got to say about that...

    Hearing Lost

The specific requirements regarding hearing requirements can be found in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations - section 391.41 subpart (11). This will give you the straight answers. I hope this helps. - Scott

    FUEL COST

It obviously costs more to heat the diesel fuel in the underground tanks. (please see heated fuel controversy from earlier in the year).

    From a recruiting standpoint..HOS

From a dispatch standpoint - companies are having to be more creative in cross docking and working with customers to buy more time or build in breaks to avoid scenarios like the one mentioned above by Lineboss. If the DOT sees this going on, nobody will win. We all have to become more creative...

    Is it possible...

Ry, Your age is the factor that will keep you from running with a major player, so you are on the right track. If you find a smaller local company that can work with you - jump on the opportunity even if it is not ideal. You can gain valuable experience in the business. Please keep in mind...

PANTHER II 900.00 A MONTH TAKE HOME??

My calculator tells me that 1500 miles per week at .40 per mile equals $600.00 per week. If you are getting .40 per mile in a straight truck that means the owner should be paying fuel AND maintenance. That $600 should go straight into your pocket. AND yes there is sitting in expediting - with...
