    Is It Happening Again?

I have found the smaller companies I have ran for generally keep their fleet sizes the same all year round. When things get super busy and no power is available, they will contract loads out to other carriers they are associated with. I feel this is very fair, and keeps the base set of...

    Water problem on box floor.

The "waterproofing" on most truck boxes really just consists of that rubberized undercoating sprayed on underneath. What you mentioned would be the best bet with those wheel boxes, just use silicone caulking that can flex a little. I have yet to see a box that didn't start leaking a little...

    Steer Axle Upgrade

http://www.americancargoexpress.com/GUIDLINES.pdf Here is a PDF with the axle limits per state. I think every state listed limits steer axle weight to 12k on the interstates, so what would be the point of the upgrade to run the axle over 12k if you can't use it? -Weave-

    professional occupation or no?

I'm just glad I am off for weekend. Heading out for a few days next week, then back home for Christmas. Same plans for everyone else? I get like 6 hours of semi-real sleep a day out on the road. When home, I'm a zombie- awake with chores, but absent minded. -Weave-

    professional occupation or no?

What do you think there Finney? What did you do as a past occupation? Was everything you encountered in the past clean to the lines of the written law? In trucking you have local laws, township laws, county laws, state laws, federal laws, laws that contradict laws, paperwork laws, sticker...

    professional occupation or no?

I seriously don't know who the "Preacher" is, but will say what he/she stated is very... close to what being a truck owner operator entails. Those are the core skills of a truck owner operator. Yet it's not just knowing them, it's being able to utilze them, and prove them over time. There is...

    New Pete 335

Saw the first of the new little Pete 335 today near Hamilton, ON. Essentially a redesigned 330 on the chassis, it looks so sweet, the 80's look of the old 330 is gone. But Paccar kept the 80's look for the KW T300 for some reason, I guess for the retro crowd...

    AIG Insurance

I always thought CRST was the Cedar Rapids Slow Truck:7 Raceman, you need to change your tactic a bit with AIG. The lawyer call might do the trick. No reason why the claim shouldn't be adjusted in a week or two for property damage unless the accident involved death or serious injury. -Weave-

    conway going flat rate?????

Yes, at $1.05 a mile, all miles better be paid. I'll bet they aren't, as CWN's D unit rate was never much more than $1.07 based on the 58% of billed charges. Unless they are giving trucks tons of miles, at $1.05 a mile it's gonna be popcorn for dinner every night:o Even TS is paying a...

    Steer Axle Upgrade

There are many states where you are not permitted to scale much more than 12k on the front axle, regardless if it's rated for more weight. Many of the dump trucks and such you see with 14-16k front axles aren't running with them loaded that heavy down the interstates where they will be scaled...

    tire pressure

I set my Goodrich ST234's to 100 PSI cold. This is class 8 chassis with steer axle close to maxed out most of the time. Good ride, and last set lasted 120k, probably would have gone more if I rotated them more regularly. -Weave-

    Valve adjustment in Cincinnati

RE: Valve adjustmen Be glad you didn't use that FYDA in Cinncy- they might have got your valves adjusted by Christmas... 2007:D I heard the KW dealer on the same road as FYDA there is very good and works on all trucks and engines, give them a try. -Weave-

    Mack Class 8 Hybrid Trucks

Because this topic had to be brought back up (for whatever reason I don't know) I will say on my own behalf and on that of the A-Team that I am well aware that truck manufacturers are developing class 8 hybrids, and have been for many years. Matter of fact Orion Busses of Oriskany, NY, (A...

    Mack Class 8 Hybrid Trucks

I don't usually try to outweigh the wisdom of "A"Team. Why not? How wise in this business can a team who has driven for a couple of fleet owners over the past year or so and ordered their own truck be? Those tasks are something thousands of others have done thousands of times long before the...

How long to keep Log Books?

Hi Wendy and Kevin! I hope things are picking back up for you. Keep the log books forever. You never know if or when you'll go back over the road, and they verify experience. If not that, they are fun to look back on and see where you went when you drove OTR. I even laugh to this day when I...
