JR,
To be honest with you, expediting does involve quite a bit of night driving. Many pick ups are during the afternoon and deliver directly in the a.m. You can arrange it where you can do the driving during the day and have your husband do the night driving. Also, expedite freight is not...
All in all, loads are taken into account on a load by load basis. This probably would not have been considered to be a load refusal against you with our company. However, if you were sitting for a length of time and the load may have brought you to a better freight lane, you may reconsider...
RE: What is the average year model companes will a
Every company is different. I can tell you that Tri-State will accept 1996 or newer straight trucks as long as they are in reasonable condition.

Childsafe,
Good question. Most larger expediters have back up carriers that they contact to help cover some of the excess freight if they don't have any of their contractors around to handle it. You should contact some of them and ask about being on that list.
Good Luck,

Tri-State does service 48 states and Canada. However, we only do
about 1% Canada. If you don't want to haul a load into Canada, you don't have to. The only drawback however is it may limit your availability some.

Chaz,
Well here goes. Expediting in a nutshell! Fewer miles, less fuel cost, less maintanence, higher rate of pay which usually relates to a better bottom line.
1. Make and model of a cargo van. Entirely up to you. As long as it meets the requirements of the company, the choice is...
Vejhn,
Tri-State Expedited does have a primary health plan for individuals and families. It is a program that we started this year and is for the time being only available to contractors based out of OH, MI, and IN. If you are a resident in one of those areas, maybe there might be somehting...
Justpassinthru,
Teaming in a van can be ok. It is more ideal for a husband and wife that will make a little more money combined and it goes to the same household. Two people in a van supporting two families is extremely difficult. Not always recommended, but it varies greatly upon...
Starbryte,
Not sure why loads are few and far between, but the answer to the 10,000 gvw question is logs. If your vehicle is rated over 10,000 gvw, dot will be looking for a log book even if you are in an E250 Ford van.
Gotta love dot,

SPOP_2000,
Welcome to the forum. To be honest with you, I don't think that any of the larger expediters would be able to utilize such a vehicle. Most of us have a cargo van division as the smallest type unit used for expedited freight and normally it is used over the road. To have a set...
Pilgram,
We use 45 mph as a gage to give to customers for our eta's. We allow the straight trucks and tractors a maximum direct run of 605 miles (55mph x 11 hrs) and the vans 715 miles (65mph x 11 hrs). So, in reality, we are allowing the vehicles to run what they can normally run mph, but...
I apologize for the delay, but we process the apps online and send a complete information packet to you. Not sure how long it has been since you completed an online app, but our information packet should reach you within a week. If you do not received something in the mail shortly, feel free...
RE: Why are no recruiters addressing my questions?
Sorry about that,
I forgot about the questions you had about the agent dispatch system.
Dan is the man to handle that question. He should get back to you shortly.

Louixo,
To answer this question accurately, I did call operations and got their opinion. All in all, the new HOS rules seem to help in some situations. Our solo guys can get dispatched on a 605 mile run direct with the new 11 hr. rule and our solo vans can now go 715 miles direct. Also...
Louixo,
The way I would put it, is both tractors and straight trucks can make money in expedite freight. Tractors do make more money per mile and are a very useful piece of equipment for expediting companies. As far as bottom line revenue, tractors due have more possibilities in making...
Well, it looks like I will handle this one. In this particular situation, truck A would definitely get the load offer first, since the vehicle has been sitting longer. One mile would not become a factor for vehicle B to get the load. Hmmmmmmmm..... what would be the distance to make a...
