    Mandatory Fuel Surcharge!!!!

    > If fuel >surcharges and a concern for you, then start looking at how >you are doing business and make the situation better. How I run my business is neither here nor there. No matter how you run your business, high fuel prices are cutting deeply into your profits. As fuel prices go up...

    Mandatory Fuel Surcharge!!!!

I have just written my Senator about my strong disapproval for the Manadatory Fuel surcharge being omitted from the Highway and Safety bill. I would hope that some of you out there will follow suit. The senate still has to approve it , so maybe by some miracle it will make a difference. I am...

Flying solo in a cargo van

There are many load boards out there, and you look for ltl(less than truckload) loads. The problem is, they pay bottom dollar in most cases. Really, the only way to make good money is to find companies that do alot of expediting. Then, get them to do a contract with you, but they usually want...

Going Out Of Business, Will Work For Food

My dad works at Ford, and makes about $25 an hour. But watching him come home in the summer after being in a 120-130 degree shop for 12 hours, he looked like death warmed over. I can't seem to feel bad for GM paying out that money and insurance. Especially, when you got sports stars making 10...

    Deer Repellent

I used to drive for SWIFT(hold the jokes please), all of their trucks had those deer whistles. As cheap as SWIFT is, I would think they work. I don't see SWIFT paying 5-10 dollars for each of their 15,000 trucks if they didn't. I'm sure there have been incidents where a deer has hit a...

    Cargo Vans

I think the most important thing to do is have enough money saved to cover at least 3 to 4 months of bills. If you keep this amount in the bank, it will make things alot easier, and less stressful. Secondly, call the recruiters from all the companies. Finally, talk to drivers from the...

Does anyone else despise Pilot Travelcenters?

The Flying J does not take Comdata, so Pilot and TA can jack up their prices. Even if a company driver does watch the fuel prices, he is still forced into the Pilot or TA. Most large companies give their driver a comdata card and O/O with the larger companies are forced to use the Comdata for...

    Backhaul Blues

The auto plants have been shut down for almost 2 weeks, so I would imagine that that is why your not getting anything out. They effect alot of suppliers in the area. You have to wait till monday for a decent load.

    Dock high?

I too have a "German" thing. The only time I've noticed a freight decline is during the expected months. I also don't remember ever being turned down at Ford's due to not being dock high. If Ford has a problem with straps, I have no problem buying a heavy duty chain and a pallet grabber...

    off duty driving

I just contacted the Michigan DOT on this issue, due to the many different things I've heard on this particular subject. I was told that you can not log off duty till you return to the place you are dispatched from. So, for instance, I take a load to Lima, OH, deadhead back to Taylor,MI, (home...

    HOT TOPIC... !!!

I would like to reply to the Alumi-bunk Woodhaven comment. If you got a fair price there, you must either go there alot, or know someone. I say because, they wanted to charge me nearly $800 to install 2 12' sections of e-track in my sprinter. I nearly choked. I was told it took 8 man hours @...

truckstops & waiting... which t/s do you like?

I'd like the pilots just fine if I didn't mind going down the road to fuel up. They usually charge 10 to 20 cents more per gallon than any other truck stop. I always try to plan my trips around the J's. Great wifi, food, pretty clean showers(most of the time), and cheaper fuel prices.

    Question

All you need to drive a commercial truck under 24,000 pounds(wihout airbrakes) is a chauffers license. As for being a truck driver, I drive a van now, but drove a big truck for about 6 1/2 years before this. The trucking industry just isn't the way it used to be when my father drove one...

what kind of chains and where do you buy them?

My philosophy on the subject is: If the weather is so bad that you need chains, then it is time to pull over and take a break. In reference to your question though, you can pick them up at the truck stops.

    Sprinter Sleeper conversion pics.

I was wondering if, someone with a Sprinter sleeper conversion could take a couple of pics of their sleeper and post them. I need to give the company that is doing mine a better idea of what I want. Also, if someone knows a company in Michigan, (besides alumi-bunk), that does the conversions...

    Trade in Value

I didn't really care for the salesman at the expo. I put in an finance app with FL of knoxville, for a sprinter. I called and talked to the salesperson, and he said he would call me back. Three times I did this with no call back. So, finally I went to Oakland Dodge here in Michigan, and they...
