What is the negative side of expediting?

I pulled containers into and out of Chicago for 3 1/2 years as a company driver for JB Hunt. Mostly WI but sometimes IA. I got whiplash from being rearended. I liked the pay, the equipment and the job but all three changed. I haven't ruled out semi. Probably make more driving semi. No mortgage...

What is the negative side of expediting?

See what you think of this idea. GMC Savanna 3500 with a 16' box 98 wide, 8 - 10 feet high, GVWR 10,000 with a pass thru door. 42 - 48 inch sleeper and 12 foot cargo area, room for 6 pallets. 6.0 gas, auto, 4.10 gears.

What is the negative side of expediting?

Sporadic freight is a concern. I'm not looking to get rich, just pay the bills. Sitting and waiting for freight may or may not be a concern. I can remember waiting all day for freight then get a load when I was ready for bed. Just haven't done it in a long time.

What is the negative side of expediting?

Thanks Zorry and Ragman. I was an O/O for a few years so I know about quarterly reporting and benefits. I lived out of a flat top COE and know about not standing up.

Whoa - How Cool is that?

I never got real dirty driving a semi but had a few loads that didn't smell very nice. Cow hides to be made into chew bones for dogs comes to mind. I'm glad my living quarters were detached.

    Shredded, Scatterd and Gatorred

How hard is it to find nitrogen on the road? If you have a slow leak can you add air to a tire filled with nitrogen?

If you park at the T/A in Russell, IL....

Thanks paullud. I was actually wanting to get a look at the on road living arrangements as well as talk shop. My first thought was to drive a straight truck for someone to get a feel for the business as well as enjoy the living space. Maybe even buy the truck from the owner. I don't think I...

If you park at the T/A in Russell, IL....

Lawrence and Cheri thank you for your reply. Wish I could make the Expo but that just isn't going to happen. The last 4 weeks I have stopped at the T/A 6 times. Only 1 Sprinter out front with the curtains drawn. Not wanting to disturb if he was sleeping, I went inside and paged him but no...

    Catalyst Injection System...Does it work????

I took it that he said he would show proof as well as install the system for free in any 6 vehicles of your choosing. He would record pre installation numbers, video tape the installation and record the the numbers again after the test. I would do it if it included a written warranty on my...

Tractor trailer illegal U turn kills teen

I was never a trainer but did drive a semi and did my share of dumb stuff but never drove the wrong way against traffic. Even though it was early in the morning I think I would have pulled on the right shoulder and called the police to stop traffic and get me out of there safely.

    Lrt

Many comments on several threads about LRT. Best advice heard was band together and hire one lawyer. Someone needs to lead and take action. Making threats on here will only make you a suspect if something really does happen to the guy.

Tractor trailer illegal U turn kills teen

What a shame that someone had to die because of stupid, illegal act. Go to the next exit and flip. Might be 20 miles but it is safe and legal.

No truth to the "Lying Eyes" theory

I think it would be interesting if they listened to 5 or 6 bull haulers swap stories for a few hours and see what kind of theory they come up with.

Who pays for repairs? Is it a bare bones van or is it set up for a driver to live in weeks at a time?

Brand new to expedite/ looking to hire driver what is a fair pay?

Great thread. May help me make up my mind to move from semi to expediter. My thought, not knowing anything, solo driver gets 45% of NET or 38% of GROSS. Curious to see how close I am when the experienced post.

I don't know about the theory but I thought Lyin' Eyes by the Eagles was a pretty good song.

What can I deduct if I drive for an owner?

I'm not a tax expert but I would think that you would be entitled to all the normal deductions of living on the road and traveling to a customer. The difference is you need material of some sort, maybe business cards or product pamphlets, that shows you were there. Any product, tool or equipment...

    A simple EOBR question

EBOR is coming to a carrier near you, just a matter of time. We already have trucks with black boxes. Dispatch can tell if you hard brake, corner too fast, idle too long and many other things you do to their equipment. The scale house camera can see if you wear a seatbelt, scale you in motion...
