FYDA reimbursements for repairs to used trucks

Years ago I bought a used Century "Select Truck" from Freightliner in Davenport, IA. 200,000 mile warranty. A lot of problems and nothing seemed to be covered. $93 an hour and the mechanic is walking around eating potato chips. Then I get the truck back and always find tools are missing. If I do...

FYDA reimbursements for repairs to used trucks

A lot of large T/T fleets are moving away from Freightliner because of downtime. The last truck I drove was a Cascadia with a DD13. It didn't have many issues, very quiet and a lot of storage but they were changing over to Internationals that seemed to have more issues and no storage.

    Health Insurance

Blue Cross / Blue Shield or Cigna are two I've used. I tried to save money once and it cost. The salesman said my highest out of pocket expense would be $4000. He lied. They paid $3600 of a $27,000 bill after they got the hospital to write off $10,000. I got stuck for $13,000 in 2004. Some...

    This cop did something good

I have seen both Illinois and Wisconsin State Police assisting motorists on numerous occasions including tire changing. I ran in and out of the Chicago railyards for three and a half years and never had a problem with the State Police. The Waukesha County Sheriff is another story. He spent 3...

BBC Breaking News: Boeing and United Airlines announce $14.7bn deal

I'm not sure many products are built in America anymore. I think assembled in America would be more appropriate, especially large multiple component products. Too many subassemblies are made outside the USA.

What can I deduct if I drive for an owner?

Any expense you pay for can be deducted. Fuel, motel, tolls, hand tools, equipment, work shoes, communication, uniforms, laundry. Save all your receipts. If you pay with a credit card you can print out your purchases for the year and they should be itemized. A good accountant is very helpful. I...

    the straight truck club

When I was a semi O/O I used Rotella oil and MotorKote because it doesn't change the viscosity of the oil. Total Fleet Service in Ft Wayne, IN for anything (one of the few places that jack up the steer axle to lube) and the labor rate was decent. Rte 30 in the North American Van Lines lot.

    log book questions

I agree with notanewbie. He would need to log the return trip.

    log book questions

Well I'm glad I don't have to log on duty not driving while waiting for freight. That would sure limit your income. Never thought much about it because I almost always had a load before I was empty.

    log book questions

In the "old" days when you took an 8 hour break I would just drop the trailer and go where I wanted. Everything was just logged off duty until I went back to work.

    log book questions

Was driving a semi, paper logs, home every weekend and now thinking of straight truck expediting. Say I am empty and on my 34 hour reset. Can I do errands in the truck or run 45 minutes to a zoo or museum then return to where I went out of service? What if the truck has EOBR? Know nothing about...

You might be an Expediter if you...

If you can pee in a bottle and text or drive at the same time is that considered multi tasking?

    Strange thing

One thing I can tell you about Deer Whistles. They can and do fill with bugs which obstructs the air flow and defeats the purpose. I have only hit one deer over the years and that truck did not have Deer Whistles.

The love for a good feeling in your expediter......

Bergstrom Nite System: Fumoto Oil Drain Valves, Espar Heaters, Espar Heater Parts, Evans Coolant :Lubrication Specialist I drove a semi with a Nite System installed, 4 deep cycle batteries and an Espar unit for heat. A/C lasts 10 hours when the batteries are new. Worked great up to 90 degrees...
