New ways to make $$$ with you van.

I guess I got out of expediting at the right time. I got a job about 6 months ago delivering custom shutters to installers in TN., KY.,NC.,SC.,VA., AND WV. I'm paid every week and all my expenses on the road, even meals, are covered. If they have a small hot shot order that will fit in my van...

    Leaving the expediting business

I have left the expediting business as of January 15th. I got a job driving an 18 ft. box truck around the southeast. I couldn't turn this deal down. I get $15.00 per hour to load and unload the truck (its hand load and unload but not heavy), I get paid for total miles driven, all expenses while...

    Ford 6.0 Diesel

I had a E-350 6.0 litre. The turbo gave up with 103,000 miles on it. It had a 100K warranty on it. $4800. The new one made it another 168K then I got rid of it.

    Difference in Sprinters

I appreciate the info. My Ford van is pushing 400K but it's running fine. No leaks, doesn't burn oil, and gets between 16-18 MPG depending on whether the A/C is running. I did a run from Atlanta to Baltimore and back round trip on 3 tanks of gas. I'm going to drive it 'til it dies then I'll...

    Difference in Sprinters

Not being a Sprinter owner, but I am thinking about buying one, I was curious. Is there a difference in Freightliner, Mercedes, and Dodge Sprinters or is it the same truck just with a different name on the grill? Is there much difference in repair cost and maintenance cost on them. And what...

Are diesel CVs really worth it?

Mine was a 2005. I got rid of it in 2008 when I started another business

Are diesel CVs really worth it?

That may not true now. The guy at Advance told me that dealers keep a lock on some replacement parts for some vehicles for a couple of years when they change something at the factory. You would think a fuel filter would be a regular maintenance item. Most people don't put miles on a vehicle like...

Are diesel CVs really worth it?

Mine was a Ford E-350 6.0 liter. I could get oil filters but Ford for some reason had a lock on the fuel filters. Only get them at a dealer. My next door neighbor was a fleet mechanic and he could only get them at a dealer too.

Are diesel CVs really worth it?

Looks like the results are in.......77% prefer gas burners over diesels in cargo vans.

Are diesel CVs really worth it?

My van was a 2005 and the only place you could buy a fuel filter at the time was at a dealer. Places like Auto Zone and Advance did not sell them and they are a pain in the *** to replace. The paper oil filter was about $30.00 at a parts store.

Are diesel CVs really worth it?

Are diesel CVs really worth the added expense? They cost more to purchase, I think the repairs and maintenance is more expensive and the fuel costs more. I had a Ford E-350 6.0 liter that took 15 quarts of oil and a $30.00 paper oil filter and the fuel filter was $94.00 if I did the labor...

Are people making a profit after taking out for taxes?

I'll get some Social Security because I had a real job before I got into this racket. And I do have investments that will provide a pretty good income along with the Social Security I will get. I don't like the way the government spends our money so I will just keep it for myself as long as I can.

Are people making a profit after taking out for taxes?

You do have to pay for it but it is cheap insurance. They will represent you if you are audited. It's a lot cheaper than paying a CPA to do your taxes. Luckily I have never used it but it's there if I need it.

Are people making a profit after taking out for taxes?

I let Turbo-Tax figure all of that out. I looked at my tax return for 2013. My TAXABLE net profit was negative therefore I pay no SE tax. As hard as the gov't tries you can't tax what ain't there. Even with my wife working my tax rate was -0.48% last year. We have other write-offs such as rental...
