The correct term so as to not offend anyone is, of course, African-American ice.

A year or so ago students as a residential college at UC Santa Cruz held a science fiction themed event that celebrated things like spaceships and aliens, SciFi books, movies and TV shows, things like that. It's part of the monthly College Nights events, and are mostly just dinners in an informal collegiate setting. Entertainment ranges from a variety of music or comedians, dancers, or just watching a feature film. Former parties held on College Night included “Midnight in Paris,” at which French food was served, and “Harry Potter,” which featured turkey, potatoes and stew. For this particular dinner, they chose Mexican food, mainly burritos and tacos, for no other reason than they "hadn’t yet had Mexican food for one of these events and couldn’t find any food that was space-related," according to Scott Hernandez-Jazón, one of the student organizers.

The next day, after an onslaught of complaints, UC Santa Cruz administrator Dr. Carolyn Golz swiftly issued a public apology for allowing the students to serve burritos in the presence of spaceship drawings: "This incident demonstrated a cultural insensitivity on the part of the program planners. I recognize that this incident caused harm within our community and negatively impacted students. We would never want to make a connection between individuals of Latino heritage or undocumented students and ‘aliens,’ and I am so sorry that our College Night appeared to do exactly that. As a result of this incident, I will require cultural competence training for Programs staff, in addition to implementing mechanisms for future program planning that will ensure college programs are culturally sensitive and inclusive."

Another example of how easily it is for people to get offended, I relay to you this a semi-personal anecdote. As you may or may not know, school lunch menus are generally made up a year in advance, and usually just get recycled from year to year. Whatever you had on the first Tuesday in October last year is likely what you'll have on the same Tuesday in October this year, or thereabouts. It's just a matter of how the calendar falls from year to year. My high school Alma Mater, Princeton High School in Cincinnati, has been doing that since at least the time I was in school there. A few years ago, it just so happened that the featured lunch on a particular Wednesday in January was fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gray, corn, cornbread, and for desert, watermelon was served. I can't see how anybody could be offended as such an awesome meal at school. Oh, but they were. It also just so happened that that particular lunch menu fell on Wednesday, January, 15th, which also just so happens to be the birth date of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Food was thrown, tables were overturned, a riot broke out, and students walked out of school. Sheesh.

Department of Homeland Security considers a gazillion different possible scenario ideas regarding border security and immigration, one of which consists of the possibility of using the National Guard in dealing with illegal immigrants. That's the one memo that got leaked by some horrified twit, and that's the one the mainstream media gives headlines, as if that's a top-of-the-To-Do list of things they're going to do. Good grief.

Meanwhile, two separate memos atually signed by Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly goes almost unnoticed by the media. Almost. The two memos outline sweeping new guidelines that empower federal authorities to more aggressively detain and deport illegal immigrants inside the United States and at the border, both of which would supersede nearly all of those issued under the Obama and Bush administrations, including the measures from Obama aimed at focusing deportations exclusively on criminals and those with terrorist ties.

The memos are tentative, pending approval from the White House Office of Legal Council, which is seeking some changes and tweaks, but they were copied to Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

One of the new procedures would allow authorities to seek expedited deportation proceedings, currently limited to undocumented immigrants who have been in the country for two weeks or less, to anyone who has been in the country for up to two years. So, instead of a protracted legal proceeding that can linger for 5 or 6 years, illegals in the country up to two years can be more or less kicked out, just like they are in Mexico and nearly every other country on the planet.

Another new provision would be to immediately return immigrants who are apprehended at the border, right back across the border, pending the outcomes of their deportation hearings, rather than house them on U.S. property. If you try to sneak into Canada, for example, they'll plop you right back into the US at the border, and will tell you that the court system will review your case - don't call us we'll call you. DHS will now be doing the same thing. Yay.

Also, remember the tidal wave of the 155,000 odd unaccompanied minors that showed up at the border from Mexico and Central America over the past three years? Under these new policies, their parents and relatives in the United States could be (and likely will be) prosecuted if they are found to have paid smugglers to bring the children across the border. Boom.

"This is very disturbing. This memo is just breathtaking, the way they really are looking at every part of the entire system," said Marielena Hincapié, executive director of the National Immigration Law Center.

Yes, Marielena, that is correct.

Joanne Lin, senior legislative counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a statement that "due process, human decency, and common sense are treated as inconvenient obstacles on the path to mass deportation. The Trump administration is intent on inflicting cruelty on millions of immigrant families across the country."

Human deeeeecency! Inflicting cruuuuuuelty! OMG. If they're here legally and didn't break the law the instant they stepped foot in this country, they've got nothing to worry about.

What's been done already is beginning to have a dramatic effect at the border, as those contemplating to enter the country illegally are now having a very real fear that they won't be able to remain in the country under Trump. It's the opposite of whenever Obama announced a cut-off date for allowing this or that, and the border would get swamped by people looking to get in under the gun. Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, said today that apprehensions of unauthorized immigrants in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas have a;ready fallen by about 1,000 between the first two weeks of January and first two weeks of February. They had a mad rush of people trying to get in before the inauguration, but it's dropped through the floor since Jan 20th.

It's time to just start saying "Too bad, get over it, shut up, get the hexx out." That's almost too wordy and the rest, forget it.

This story had some people offended.(initially perhaps understandably so)Although it appears that it was due to a misunderstanding of what the announcer actually said. An apology by him for using a word that is similar in pronunciation yet very different in meaning, wasn't enough to save his job. Seems like an overreaction by ESPN to fire him though, imo.
Tennis Announcer Sues ESPN After Fired for ‘Gorilla’ Comment He Says He Never Intended - Breitbart
Howard Cosell got fired for using a term that he had used before on the air several times, and had talked often about in reference to his grand kids. Funny thing is, Alvin Garret, the object of Cosell's comments, didn't find it offensive at all, and was notably outraged by his firing.

I hope Mike Adler wins his lawsuit. Guerrilla Tennis is a well-used and well-known term in tennis. It originated in doubles tennis in the 1800s to describe the Guerrilla warfare tactics of hit-and-run, mobility and aggressive charging of the net, and the petty warfare tactic of dumping a deadened ball just over the net when the other players were at the back of the court. Basically, all of the surprise tactics of tennis are taught in guerrilla tennis.

What's with the Fake News Networks pushing the fake news that Trump is antisemetic and an antisemitic sympathizer?

What's with the Fake News Networks pushing the fake news that Trump is antisemetic and an antisemitic sympathizer?
It goes back to two things, one, Steve Bannon, who is, of course, Hitler, and two, back to this: Remaining Silent in the Face of Hate

Reporter to Trump: Will you denounce antisemitism once and for all?
Trump: I denounce antisemitism.
Reporter: So your denouncing antisemitism once and for all?
President Trump condemns anti-Semitism: 'It has to stop'
Don't worry, the next time some Antisemitic thing happens, no matter how big or small, Trump will once again be repeatedly berated until he, once again, denounces it, twice.

Spicey got a little testy on that in the press briefing today. Said eventually, it gets to the point of "asked and answered" (sheesh) and there's no time or reason to keep repeating the same thing over and over every time something happens.

In the linked article above, Trump says, "I think it's terrible. I think it's horrible. Whether it's anti-Semitism or racism or any — anything you wanna think about having to do with the divide. Anti-Semitism is, likewise, it's just terrible."

Which means, "I denounce anything and everything that needs to be denounced, OK? Now shut up about it, because me denouncing it again isn't going to make it all stop."

(on a personal note, I don't understand the whole Antisemitic thing AT ALL. Not even a little bit. The Jews are wonderful people and their food is delicious.)

One thing to keep in mind, or perhaps notice as it occurs, is that these days, Antisemitism isn't really even about people who hate Jews. It’s about people that the Jewish leftists hate. It's one more tool in the leftist toolbox to demonize anyone who doesn't agree with the left.

So true. One person that is completely hysterical is Steven Goldstein, from the Anne Frank center. He's one of the go to people by CNN,NBC, and newspapers like the New York Times that are jumping up and down about 'rampant antisemitism' in the Trump administration. No amount of denial and rebuke by Trump is good enough according to him. It's there he tells you. It has to be! It's solely driven by his leftist politics, imo.

You mean the guy from the Ann Frank Center for Mutual Respect, who's purpose is to fight every single progressive liberal demonizing buzzword issue, instead of having anything at all to do with, you know, Ann Frank? That Steven Goldstein?

He stands for Mutual Respect the same way that liberals stand for tolerance.
