If you're a dumber than dirt liberal moron without the sense to come in out of the rain it's all about "scary looking". Take away some of the "scary looking" and the exact same firearm is perfectly fine.

You see Zorry, all rifles, and for that matter all firearms regardless of type, are designed to do EXACTLY the same thing and one thing only. That is to propel an object(s), down a tube, using the force of expanding hot gasses to accomplish that goal. That is it. What is done with that object(s) is solely the responsibility of the person/persons who set that action into motion.

Evidently people see "evil looking" guns and think I can go play Rambo, at least for a few minutes.

What makes you think that is so? The ONLY reason some consider that a rifle of one type "looks evil" is ONLY because the media says so.

What has changed? These rifles have been around for over 50 years, we did not have these problems then. It is still VERY rare.

Millions upon millions of people own AR platform rifles. They don't commit crimes with them. They are used daily, for every day, normal sporting uses that all firearms are used for. That is a fact.

Just an example of how stupid some of the laws are.

THIS link shows a picture of what the BATFE considers to be a "gun". It can ONLY be bought in person, with a background check etc, OR, bought online, shipped to a valid FFL shop, where the buyer can do the background check and, if they pass, take it home.

That "dumber than dirt liberal moron without the sense to come in out of the rain" routine gets tiresome, you know?
Interesting little research project just done by Cornell University, in which 1275 resumes were sent for actual jobs advertised. The applicants had the same education, experience & qualifications, only their gender & parental status differed. Not surprisingly, the men with children got the most responses, the women with children the least. Those doing the hiring felt that men with children are "more responsible", while women with children are "more likely to put family obligations ahead of job responsibilities".
It's all about the image, [preconceived notions, stereotypes] all the time. Sometimes, [like looking for a job] that works to your advantage - even when you're unaware of the advantage.
When it doesn't, you blame those "dumber than dirt liberal morons, etc..."
SMH.
