Quite an eye opener.............

These 11 States now have More People on Welfare than they do Employed!

Last month, the Senate Budget Committee reports that in fiscal year 2011, between food stamps, housing support, child care, Medicaid and other benefits, the average U.S. household below the poverty line received $168.00 a day in government support. What’s the problem with that much support? Well, the median household income in America is just over $50,000, which averages out to $137.13 a day. To put it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30.00 an hour for a 40-hour week, while the average job pays $20.00 an hour.

Re: It starting.

Quite enlightening. Let's encourage a major influx of additional criminal aliens with all these benefits and we can bring more states onto the deficit side of the ledger.

How sad. What is even more sad is just how many people are CONTENT to be bums and live a life of sloth off the backs of hard working people.

I hate to nit pick (not really) but could you proof read your title?

Otherwise, do you have a source for the article? It is eye opening if true.

Re: It starting.

No source as it was sent in a email. Thought it was interesting though. Not sure it is factual without some research.
I did find this though.
snopes.com: Death Spiral
and this. It appears all associated with government dependency were counted.
FactCheck.org » welfare

Good job! You were able to debunk your own O.P.
So the map is referring to states that have more " takers than makers". In other words the number of employed people to the number of welfare recipients with no reference to income comparisons.
They seem to have misrepresented the number of takers by a huge margin as they included all Government workers and Pensioners in the welfare category.
My eyes are no longer opened. :p

That is of course assuming one can trust Snopes or FACTCHECK. What axes do those two groups have to grind? Who funds THEM?

Not saying the map was right, just saying that just because it is on the internet does not make it right either.

Re: It starting.

The biggest concern would be if we are trending that way.
Almost forgot...that map is in error. They forgot Michigan as mentioned earlier.;)

Before spot reading the thread, first thing I thought was "Dang dudes, Michigan should be on that list too..."

I am always leery of lists and top tens and stats that purportedly prove this or that

I remember, when accompanying my mother to a university class on statistics that she had to attend, that one can *always* find stats to support ones own argument, and that it is most often abused for political gain.

Michigan has been the "Forgotten Land" for a VERY long time. I could fix it and quickly. I would require HARD, DIRTY, WORK, for ALL able bodied and able minded, to receive welfare. No one should be given money taken by force from those who earned it and not be expected to at least show those it was taken from some benefit.

Once they see that they need to WORK, they will leave the State for easier places to mooch off other and continue their life of sloth.

All those left would be hard working, normal people. THEN we could fix things. Restore some marsh land and put the state on the RIGHT track. Gotta find a way to get rid off the politicians as weill
