Unfortunately, according to history, you chosen the wrong words.
it is definite that Marie Antoinette NEVER said those famous words that lived to be her life slogan.
to make things worst, those words are attached to her (wrongly understood & under appreciated) character, only as a result of a decade long of media propaganda aiming at self preservation by enthusiasting the masses against the royalty crown .

It was a Baroness who said it [forget which one], and she actually said brioche, not cake - but we all get the drift.
I can very easily imagine Ann Romney saying it, after seeing her interviewed. She was just outraged that reporters asked Mitt about his tax returns - her whole demeanor was "How DARE they!"
She also said "Releasing more just gives them more ammunition, so there will be NO MORE returns released."
I think Ann Romney is what Marie Antoinette was portrayed as: an aristocratic snob who thinks of most of us as 'you people'.

Please show me the requirement in the Constitution about tax returns, it does NOT exist.

I agree with the Romney's, although I am not voting for him or the Putz, even the totally arrogant Nancy Pelosi won't release HER tax returns. Romney should NOT release them. They are, frankly, NONE OF OUR BUSINESS!

I would be FAR more interested in seeing their college transcripts, since both claim advanced degrees. When people are claiming education as part of their qualification, they SHOULD be willing to prove it.

Your contempt of Ann Romney seems frivolous. Do you have any examples that's she acts like an aristicatic snob or are you just showing your disdain for someone who happens to have a lot of money and don't agree with her politics?

Sounds amazingly similar to the first lady we have today.

Where does it say that candidates for president of the United States are required to release their tax returns? It just says they have to pay taxes. Only Obama cabinet members are not required to pay them.

It goes to good faith. If somebody is applying to be the leader of the free world they should show they are financially responsible.

First off, the president of the United States is NOT the leader of the 'free world'. Second, there is NO Constitutional requirement to do so. WHY? People's personal finances are anyone but their own business.

IF we are going to REQUIRE this, there needs to be a LAW passed by the Congress to require it. It should also be REQUIRED of ALL candidates, like Nancy Pelosi who will not release her's and then has the unmitigated gall to rag on Romney about not releasing his.

Why won't Obama release his college transcripts? As his employer I want to see them. He claims advanced degrees, prove it! I would not hire a retail stock boy when I was in management without seeing his high school grades and/or verifying stated credentials. Obama, or who ever is president, are nothing more than employees of the People and should act as such.

I'm certainly aware of the misattribution of the quote, but I thought it was you saying it in this thread to make a point. And it's a good point, I think.

Xiggi also makes a good point in pointing out that both Michelle Obama and Ann Romney seems to portray the same lofty class separations of the privileged and the little people. Muttly, of course, disagrees, at least in part.

Race horse owners tend to be snobby aristocrats, and Ann Romney has that written all over her. Anyone from Kentucky can certainly see it without having to look very hard. On the other hand, while Ann Romney gets lambasted by the media and her detractors for flaunting her wealth by wearing a $990 shirt that was "indicative of a tone-deaf campaign" in rubbing the peasant's noses into their own poverty-stricken squalor, Michelle Obama gets high royal praise for her $6,800 shirt because it was Made in the USA, and she therefore is supporting the commerce of the nation. Plus, wearing such a top is a surefire way to generate patriotic pride when you can make the queen look dowdy and upstage Kate Middleton on their own turf. <snort>

Ann Romney, initially channeling Sarah Palin, says:
“Have you seen how we’re attacked? Have you seen what’s happened? We have been very transparent to what’s legally required of us. But the more we release, the more we get attacked, the more we get questioned, the more we get pushed. So we have done what’s legally required and there’s going to be no more tax releases given.” She went on to say, “It will just give them more ammunition," and then in ultimate aristocratic fashion adds, "We've given all [that] you people need to know and understand about our financial situation and how we live our life."

So when it comes to aristocratic snobbery, flip a coin.

On a completely unrelated note...
First off, the president of the United States is NOT the leader of the 'free world'.
The rest of the world would strongly disagree with that statement, especially since they're the ones who came up with the term. The president of the United States is perceived to be exactly that, and with perception being reality, is thus the de facto leader of the free world. The term was first applied to FDR, but it became part of the world lexicon right after WW II when "the most powerful man on Earth" and "the leader of the free world" were used both synonymously and in conjunction with each other, and was born and took hold during the beloved Cold War.

Your contempt of Ann Romney seems frivolous.

Frivolous? I think you need to look up the meaning of the word, because there is nothing frivolous about contempt. Which, BTW, is what I got from Ann Romney's demeanor and words, but it doesn't accurately describe what I feel about it.

Do you have any examples that's she acts like an aristicatic snob

I listed an example - were you not paying attention?

or are you just showing your disdain for someone who happens to have a lot of money and don't agree with her politics?

I was showing my discomfort with someone who seemed to be the very embodiment of entitled, and the only thing money has to do with it is that Ann Romney has alwys been protected by it, to the point that she is outraged that 'we the people' have the right to question her husband's finances, just because he's running for President.
You seem to believe the Republican smokescreen about 'class envy', so how do you explain the absence of disdain for billionaires in the fields of dotcom, sports, and entertainment?
Bill Gates could buy Romney from his pocket change, and I have tremendous respect for Gates, and ditto for Denzel Washington, too. It's not about how much money they have, it's about how they got it, and what they do with it.
I am thankful that the founding fathers managed to put their selfish interests aside to create the government they did, because we don't seem to have any political leaders today who could do it.

I don't know what was so "beloved" bout the 'Cold War', SO many died, SO much wasted resources. Much of which we can blame on the LACK of leadership by Truman.

As to the "LEADER" of the free world, there is no such thing as the 'free world' just the less ruled world. As to "LEADERS", ain't seen one in a coons age. Just a bunch of corrupt politicians who could not lead a blind dog to the food dish. Their only concern reelections and consolidation of their own power. More the trait of a ruler.

Turtle: seriously? Michelle Obama displays class snobbery by wearing expensive clothes? First Ladies have always done so, it's part of the gig. I didn't see any criticism of Ann Romney's clothing, and would call it frivolous and irrelevant if I had. The words you quoted are what I referred to - the woman just drips outrage and contempt of "you people", and I find it quite scary, really.
I can't imagine Ann Romney digging a vegetable garden to promote healthy eating, and I don't think it was entirely about the 'image' - I think Michelle Obama believes in doing what you can to be healthier, and I like that.
Don't always live up to it, but I applaud the effort.

It is the welfare rangers and medicaid mammas that have a sense of entitlement. The Romney's ARE entitled to what they EARN and are allowed to spend it as they wish.

Those sports stars, entertainment starts, etc, came upon their money legally for the most part. It is the peoples lack of priorities that allows them to get rich off what they do. We, as a people, CHOOSE to put a higher value on ball bouncing that doctoring.

We have NO RIGHT to question their personal finances. Explain why Pelosi won't release her's, AND. when asked by a member of the press, one of the few with 'stones' why SHE would not release HER returns she spouted off that may we should as the press for theirs. Sounds like a HIPPOCIRT to me!

Enlighten me, please, because I've seen not a hint of it from Michelle Obama [clothing doesn't count!] other than taking advantage of the perks enjoyed by every other First Lady.
So what sounds familiar to you?

LOL! I can tell you one thing for sure. I would have NEVER hired him for my store, he had NO experience, background or interest in our business. He would put it all out of business if he could. Didn't hire drunks or dopers either, nor criminals. He just would not fit my idea of the "ideal" employee. The term 'useless' comes to mind in his case!
