Might be a temporary parking spot until free government housing is provided.
Could be something more sinister as well?

It's much ado about nothing. They don't want to get caught with their pants down again like they did after Katrina. The ominous "off limits" area is a place for administrative duties to be performed in a secure area separate from people who might panic and take charge overrun the place, as as happened many times around the world in refugee camps. As for the displaced persons employed as "first responders" to an unknown disaster, that a silly little leap of assumption. It's more like, in the first day, an announcement is made along the lines of, "OK, Who knows how to cook? Is there a doctor in the camp? "

The idea of having 'fixed' camps to move people too is a good idea. One does have to pay attention to insure that they are used ONLY for the reason they were built.

I do, however, do NOT believe that evacuation for storms etc is a federal responsibility. It is a state responsibility and there for there is no need for the feds to build these camps. State and local governments should be doing this. That was the cause of the problems with Katrina, the states did not do what they should have. There was ample warning and time to get people out. Add to that all those who could have got out and refused.

LOS...I would liken it to the FBI.....once a suspect crosses state lines it becomes a federal crime...
a major storm like Katrina was more of a national disaster crossing many state lines...It is like why do we have the Corp of Engineers having authority in all states?..... New Orleans is also a port, which is under federal control...

Nope, don't work that way. It is required that the states REQUEST federal assistance. The mayor of New Orleans had ample time and resources to evacuate prior to the flooding. He stopped the busses from doing so. The governor of LA stopped relief convoys from going in later. Put the blame where it belongs.

The Corp of Engineers has not authority over the people or the State, only certain functions regarding navigatable water ways ans flood control. They are not very good at either.

It is the very fact that the people are becoming dependent on the Federal government that lead to the majority of the problems.

The government has never been the solution and never can be, it is the cause of the problems.

I disagree...the federal government has certain responsibilities to keep commerce flowing/running.
Then I suppose the NATIONAL Guard should be renamed State Guard?. Not be available to the Pentagon..and not be seeing overseas duty?....

What ever you want. I choose to remain independent. The Guard has nothing to do with this and it, and the reserves, are being used in ways that there were never meant to be.

The federal government is there ONLY to resolve disputes between the states over commerce. At least, that is how it was set up.

I'm done. Got work to do.
