Can a Honda Eu1000 run a small heater in a cargo van? I know the Eu2000i can ,but I want to know if the Eu1000 it is enough .

Probably .... most of the small electric heaters are about 800 watts .... I run one here, (on a Yahama2000, and it seldom kicks into high range)

If you do get a heater, be sure it has a thermostat control! Otherwise ya gonna be real hot in there!

Well I've tried electric heat..and even a 1500 watt heater just doesn't make the grade and that takes a Honda 2000 to run that and you won't get a full nights sleep unless you have the auxillary tank to run it....
An 800 watt heater will run that Honda at full power..remember you can't run 1,000 watt Honda at 1,000 watts for extended amount of time..I think the manual says 80-90% of rated wattage...

Perhaps my experience is different, since I have an enclosed sleeper, I am not heating the entire van.

Also, I have not used it at extreme cold yet. Perhaps sub zero will have me crying a different tale!

When I go to bed at night, I do not want it "hot" anyway ... if the temperature is somewhere above 40 degrees in here I'm a happy camper!

But as a matter of discussion, if all you wish to run with the generator is a heater, why invest in an "inverter" generator in the first place? Those such as Honda and Yahama produce a "clean" ac current, to run sensitive electronic devices. A much cheaper generator will run a heater.

Also, my generator, when operational, powers a converter that produces 50 amps, (I think), of dc power to charge both my batteries, truck and inverter.

The inverter runs the electronics with clean ac.

I bought the inverter model of the generator for a different reason, it is more compact, quiter and more easily stored. Otherwise I would have bought one of the $300-400 models.

Those electric heaters make my eu2000 WAY TO HARD...I'm not comfortable with my gen running full tilt all night...my 5000 btu ac. Doesn't even make the gen idle up a bit...so I will run that around clock... I use the big buddy lp for heat...

I've had bad luck with the Big Buddy...getting way to much oil in the fuel lines and plugging it up...even with a filter on it...

The back breaker was 2 weeks ago...the crip on the hose loosened up and propane poured out of the hose..I quickly flung open the door, turned off tank and dragged it outside VERY quickly....The one time I am glad I did not have a smoke in my mouth...soooo Espar it is...

Why limit yourself with such a small generator to begin with? Get a 2 or 3 k watt generator and be done with it, using it for everything you will ever need. That's why I went with the 3,200 watt Cummins/Onan, so it will be capable of running the rooftop a/c when the time comes.

I had a long drown out post ready about the dangers of propane.. But deleted after reading yours. As they say the proof is in the pudding. Thanks for posting about your back breaker, you will love the espar Ken.

Hope you weren't naked when you hoped out quickly. LOL!!!

Yeap propane is a really terrible thing to use in a vehicle...i could never understand why all of those motorhomes running up and down the highways would use a heater or furnace with a open pilot lite and burner fueled by propane....*

As with anything, you can have a incident...use propane in the safest manner ou can, and be aware and mindful when using it and you limit the "incidents"...

Low oxygen sensors, tip over / motion detectors, o2 detectors and good placement of the unit all provide safe usage....and the Big Buddy is designed to be used indoors.....

I was all ready to go out and buy one. Had the safety features and everything. But a connection break leaking propane inside??? Hmmm...maybe not.

Ask OVM how long he has used propane without incident....yes things can happen...using it safely is the key to being safe...i have used the Big Buddy for 5 yrs now..replaced the hose ends this yr, just because...never has a leak, but the hose was 3.5 rs old....it gets moved all the time..the smart thing to do was be "preventive" and replace the ends....I replace the filter each year...i use the right low ox and o2 detectors....

Ill continue to use propane....

Yes it was an accident on my part..not the propanes...My first mistake was in forgetting to run the propane out of the line as I was shutting down the system...The propane when handled correctly is not a problem...basically I am thinking the convience of not lugging around 80 lbs of weight..2 tanks and heater...making extra room in van...It is kinda kinky to have to leave a window open and then have to then cool the very air you let in...
