So, I guess if you're of a certain persuasion and you care about restoring fiscal sanity, you're a freak.

Tea Party Made Up of 'Freaked Out White Men': Whitney
Published: Wednesday, 10 Aug 2011 | 9:27 AM ET Text Size By: Jeff Cox
CNBC.com Staff Writer

Speaking in the broader context of a discussion on CNBC regarding the Standard & Poor’s downgrade of US debt, Whitney said the dissenters represent the type of problems that have led to the current predicament in Washington.

“Call it Tea Party, whatever you will, the fringe element is I characterize (as) freaked-out white men who are unemployed and have been unemployed for three years and they’re scared to death,” she said. “Three to four million of them are about to roll off unemployment benefits in the next three to four months. This is only going to get worse.”

Democrats looking to hold the White House and regain full control of Congress will need to take note.

“For this reason you have to deal with the structural issues,” Whitney said. “If you are a Machiavellian Democrat you want do deal with this issue and defuse the Tea Party as fast as you possibly can because this poses the biggest threat to their re-election in 2012.”

Her comments come at a turbulent time for markets, which saw a more than 600-point drop for the Dow industrials on Monday that was followed by a more than 400-point gain on Tuesday.

Economic uncertainty is at the crux of the tumult, with investors caught between crosswinds of debt issues in Europe and US as well as the threat of rising unemployment.

Whitney said extending unemployment benefits, which already have been pushed to 99 weeks, is not the answer.

“You feel better about yourself when you’re working. Kids feel better about their parents when they’re working. Having a job is more than having a paycheck,” Whitney said. “To push for the extension of unemployment benefits is going to and should unleash absolute backlash against this administration because that’s a horrendous idea.”

The Democrat/liberal strategy for dealing with the Tea Party comes straight out of "Rules for Radicals". They have identified, isolated, and are now labeling and demonizing them with the willing help of the MSM. Hopefully the TP will keep their eye on the bullseye and not be distracted by these hysterical losers.

MMMM, double standards again? Some one should wright an article about the "New Black Panthers" being made up of "Freaked Out Black Men" who are fresh out of slavery and are downtrodden by by a society that sets out to "keep them in their place". What would Jackson or Sharpton say if someone wrote such an article?

What would the "Panthers" say? More calls to "Kill Crackas" and their babies?

Not to mention the likes of Clarence Thomas being referred to as being "off the plantation".

Who is this Whitney character? I haven't seen a first name, or last name if Whitney is his first name. Then he'd be like Twiggy... one name. Of course, if Whitney is his only name, he would be confused with the Bobby Brown punching bag.

What are his qualifications to say that the Tea Party is just made up of crazy white people? I saw some defintely spazmatic black people as well. Not to mention, I saw some spaced-out Martians as well. Oh well... maybe Whitney-girly name should go back to his own planet... Uranus.

Of course, one would know that - if one had clicked on the link to the story in the OP.

BTW, I have yet to see one post in this thread that actually appears to indicate any real understanding of the context and intent of said individual's comments.

What I do see however, is multiple instances of apparently being unable to understand another's communication (.... batting a thousand .... I'd say ....) ..... or failing to even receive what was said/conveyed at all .... instead just making up something up that you "think" she said/meant ..... (or "he said/meant" ... if you believed it was a guy)

Given that, is it really any wonder that we're in the mess we're in ?

Merrideth Whitney, is not a LIBERAL. I think her words are harsher in reading than in hearing. What she is trying to express is that people who are not normally freaked out, are. They are demanding change.

I listen to Mrs. Whitney a lot she has her **** together. She's not a CNBC host but rather an independant financial analyst. She was one of the few who predicted the 2009 collapse before it happened, and explained the root cause, which was government manipulation of the mortgage industry. She started warning people in 2007 that a train wreck was coming.

Anyway just two cents. BTW, she thinks the SP downgrade shoul have happened years ago as do I.

I just re read that whitney quote, and it is clear to me now she is NOT speaking her point of view but RATHER the point of viewof the DEMs, who think anyone who wants a fiscally sound Federal Government is a kook.

Anyway Merridith Whitney is NO liberal.

Doesn't really matter. The opinions of these main steam media talking heads aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Other than looks and personality, there are virtually no qualifications for these journalists.

Ask me if I give a rat's patootey about Meredith or her story.

I guess now you know why conservatives get frustrated at liberals. Welcome to the damm club.

Again... libs do it all the time. They should let someone else join in the fun. Tell me you'd sit thru a 10 minute Peter Schiff video if I posted it, BEFORE you spewed your opinion.

Given that, is it really any wonder that we're in the mess we're in ?

John Kerry called. He wants to use that line.

Actually, you apparently cared quite a bit about - at least enough that you would make the effort and take the time to comment (even if uninformedly ...)

I guess now you know why conservatives get frustrated at liberals. Welcome to the damm club.
I've known for a very long time why conservatives get frustrated at liberals ..... it's essentially the same (if a mirror, and polar opposite) reason that liberals get frustrated with conservatives:

Conservative aren't liberals .... and in the conservative's case: liberals aren't conservatives.

Again... libs do it all the time. They should let someone else join in the fun. Tell me you'd sit thru a 10 minute Peter Schiff video if I posted it, BEFORE you spewed your opinion.
Uhhhh ..... I like Peter Schiff ..... he speaketh much soothe ....

Why wouldn't I sit thru it ..... if I had the time, and was interested ? (afterall, the really important thing being to understand what is actually being said ..... isn't it ?)

You might wanna have a look at who all has been likin' your posts over the last few weeks ..... before you start castin' any stones of that variety in my direction.

I read it, and I watched the video. The guy was right at the end... "Stick to munies." In sympathizing with the unemployed, she alienated those who believe the Tea Party is for the good, regardless of why they believe that. I don't know what she hoped to gain by saying what she said. It shows she clearly doesn't have a clue about the movement, or the "angry white men" involved with it. BTW, there were more than a few "angry black men and women" at those rallies. This isn't a "white thing", it's a "freedom thing".

Exactly right.

This is the only option they have and they know it. Facts and logic would destroy thier arguments in an honest debate.

At the end of the day, there's no legitimate argument in favor of either party.
