Just a small part of allowing the mexican truckers to cross the border and steal r freight is the fact they must have gps and tracking system, where we know where they are......and guess what the United States DOT is paying the tab. I read this in an article by OOIDA......what next, we pay their fuel......

Way the bill has been written, it sounds like you the truck driver will be paying it from the IFTA tax they collect from us! So therefore, expect a rise in our IFTA tax!

Now what else would expect from Ray "Lefty" LaHood and Osama BinBiden Obama?

It seems more and more like my government is inviting me to exit the industry. I'm seriously thinking about it.

You know, I am thinking the same way...

While at the truck stop talking to other drivers I got to thinking and really listening to Obama....

It seem that these politicians sit and look at who makes what, "Oh that truck driver has a house in the woods, paid straight out" (due to the fact he stayed out and owned nothing but the truck)...Needless to say, Obama and those politicians cannot handle it so they go for our throats for making it possible to live and do our job.

Seems to me they cannot stand the fact someone is making money legally, or not stabbing someone in the back!

I know...I am being negative...sorry, I will get off my soap box and quit yelling (while whalling my arms and pointing at Obama on TV)!!!

LaHood is a sellout, does not have the prosperity of the American trucker at heart. I can assume when the taco trucks come we will all give them the welcome they deserve for their part in gutting our jobs.

Ray "Lefty" LaHood is not a sellout. He was put into that position by this administration to do EXACTLY what he is doing. This administration is hell bent on destroying our economy. They are doing it. Truckers are a VERY easy target. For YEARS the industry has been targeted by the media as "dirty". They picture us as stupid people not capable of any occupation that requires a brain. So now, when they take the next step to shut us down no one will care. I mean, after all, they are just stupid truckers who are likely on drugs anyway.

In my opinion, the true target of our ire should be the railroads. Think about it for a moment. With all the restrictions, rules, etc being placed on us, the true winners here will be the railroads. If you look closely at the rail industry and the inroads they are making into true inter-modal transportation, one could see where this is all going. Long haul trucking is the first true target of the railroads. One can ship a trailer via rail across the country for about half of what it would cost to truck it. Next will come the regionals on even a greater scale than it is now.
Warren Buffet didn't get into the railroad business just to to say he owns railroads.....

Having said all that, I think there will always be a market for expedited freight and the service we provide.

Steal my freight?

Highly unlikely.

I don't haul for the major appliance people, I don't haul fruit and veggies and I don't work in California.

SO what if they pay for it, I don't care.

I care that the states are allowed to take the money that I PAY in taxes for other than maintaining the roads or how I have to deal with an invasive DOT physical that proves nothing other than the doctor collects his $50.

I care that the feds in handing out the money back to the states, allow them to build roads to what ever standard that the states want - I75 near the bridge was completely rebuilt and now there is a big hole in it, why?

Does it matter who is paying for it when it comes down to the FACT that this entire industry is scattered in the wind when it comes ALL political issues facing it?

"the OOIDA will... " seems to be the only rallying cry for those who complain about things like this. The OOIDA is a good organization but it can't vote, it can't represent the industry nor can it actually force changes - the VOTING TRUCKER can.

If truckers can come together for something like Special Olympics or other cause, than there is absolutely no reason why they can't come together to fight to keep their livelihood and to stop the abuse by the states and the feds.

Before you all complain about La Hood or Obama or who ever, take a serious look at the industry and see why it is such a mess.

Its a mess cause we allowed it and we don't have the courage to take it back. Its that simple. We allow big time brokers to set the rules, detention, how long we sit before they pay us, to be somewhere an hour before they even open, the list goes on. We have big government force their ignorance on us with HOS rules without any value tied to detention at docks. We have split speed limits that r proven to be unsafe for us.....and this list goes on. So yea its a mess and I'm to blame...r you?
