There's a wide perception that Mr. Buchanan is an anti-Semite, due to his anti-Israel foreign policy positions and a book on WWII he recently wrote in which he in essence claimed (wrongly, IMO) that Hitler wasn't entirely to blame for the war in Europe. Even though I don't agree with Mr. Buchanan on _many_ issues, I'm tired of him being labeled as something that I think he's not by his detractors, specifically those of the stripe that find anyone and everyone who doesn't agree with them to be some flavor of "evil" or another.
Therefore, I'm offering his support of and belief in Mr. Goldwater as a counterweight to what I see as a rather nasty and unwarranted assault on Buchanan's character.
OK, I see what your getting at.
I don't agree, however, with your statement that Buchanan's claim that Hitler was not entirely to blame for WWII was incorrect. I believe that was a very correct statement.
Excluding the extreme long term causes for the war you must put a lot of the blame on England and France for their extremely harsh treatment of Germany at the end of WWI. Had that treaty been a more "forgiving" treaty, for lack of a better term, then the conditions that allowed for Hitler to rise in power might not have taken place.
I am of the opinion that the lessons learned from that round in history led to the Marshall Plan after WWII. That plan was one of the reasons why we have not yet had a 3rd war of the WWII magnitude in Europe.
