i thought we were told that if the stimulus was passed, unemployment would NOT go past 8%.......

Well Michigan's cooked unemployment rate went down while we had more layoffs and more people who lost their benefits last month. It is estimated that we have between 19 and 24% of real unemployment and if we lose more jobs, it will climb to near 30% - remember that these numbers include people who gave up looking and now live in boxes under overpasses.

Job losses continue to mount...now that a lot of the road construction is wrapping up in the north....all them laid off will be showing up in the numbers....They have created very few NEW jobs...just baring maintaining OLD jobs.

You know OVM, the road construction jobs were not created by the work. The layoffs are part of the normal cycle and will be counted as such.
The truth about the road construction and the propaganda that the WH used is that the major companies that do this work didn't hire many, if at all and they staged the work as they do with all their work which allowed them to overprice the bids in many of the cases and still make a sizable amount of money while using the same workforce.
If this wasn't the case, then this road construction would have been completed in record time, using people who are unemployed without hessitation.

so billions spent in the stimulous money..where are the NEW jobs...?

Dear Mr. President:
Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.
Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties, proven bad business practices and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:
There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force.
Pay them $1 million apiece severance, tax free, for early retirement with the following stipulations:
1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.
It can't get any easier than that!
If more money is needed, have all members of Congress and their constituents pay their taxes...
