The U.S. Conference of Mayors held their meeting in Providence, R.I. this year. As in all prior years the administration was to be represented by several members of the administration plus several members of the cabinet. STOP. The union, in this case firefighters union, called Obama and said you aren't to attend and just like that nobody from the administration showed up. What a surprise that our fearless leader would do such a thing. And yes, for those who feel the need to keep score, that is no respect for the man because he has proven time after time after time he deserves no respect at all.

I don't know if the unions are running things or not. What I AM sure of is that Barry and this Congress are NOT!! The "Puppet Masters" are.

I saw nothing HATEFUL in that post, just dis-respectful. Of course, Barry dis-respects MUCH about our traditional way of life. Therefore, the return of dis-respect is OKEE DOKEE!! I for one have NO respect for people who SHOW dis-respect for me.

I do NOT understand how you can label me an ANARCHIST? I believe in our Constitution and The Rule of Law. I believe in a freely elected government, free of graft and coruption and influence by special interest groups. A government that answers to the People. We do NOT have that now nor for many years. In short, I believe in the Republic, personal freedom and responsibilty and the RIGHT of self determination. How do those beliefs equal anarchy? You lost me there.

The writer blames unions for contributing to, if not being the major reason for, both the Obama administration's lack of attendance and the various Mayors' financial problems. I think there may well be valid reasons for both that can't be laid at the feet of organized labor.

There are a number of reasons that major cites, as well as other smaller ones, are in financial trouble. The Federal government is responsible for some, so are the unions. Poor cash management is the main cause. Promising zillions of services that there is NO revenue to support just to get re-elected is the MAIN cause. The piling on of un-neededand un-funded Federal regulations are a HUGE problem as well. The Feds need to mind their own business, the cities are NOT a Federal Problem, nor are the States. The Constitution lays out the Feds responsibilities quite well. Follow that and we would be light years ahead of where we are today.

Anything BUT an admission of incompetence [and a willingness to begin trimming expenses with their own] is the order of the day, eh?
Given the results, it looks as if ALL officials have been underqualified and waaay overpaid for a long time.
But I'm not holding my breath till any of them admit it. It's so much easier to blame the unions, for example.....

Our "officials" are the MAIN problem, no doubt. Many unions demand unresonable things, like pay raises during a time when tax revenues are falling etc. You are correct to NOT hold your breath for our elected officials to do right, the People do NOT demand it so it will NEVER happen. Unless we change it. WE have made NO attempt to do so.

"Reasonable" is in the eye of the beholder, innit it? Is a cost of living pay increase unreasonable? Did the officials think it unreasonable when it was their pay at issue?
I think the "Right to work" faction is misplacing the blame, is all I'm sayin.
