Well, since you asked, my way of thinking is to do whatever we have to do in order to secure the safe release of all of the hostages, and do so in accordance with the wishes of the owners of the captured vessels, put a snotload more ships in the area to prevent any further hijackings, including putting a blockade at the ports where these guys operate out of, and in the meantime, once everyone is safe, that's when we go in and start blowing things up.
The French freed a yacht, but one of the hostages was killed. What if the SEALs go after the lifeboat, free the captain, and the pirates immediately kill 100 or so of the other hostages they are holding?
I agree completely. I just don't want the other 200 innocent hostages to pay that price along with the pirates. If it were just one guy held hostage, it might be different. I know if it were me that was taken hostage, I would want the US to write me off and make a loud and clear statement. Blindingly, brilliantly clear, so that there's no mistaking what will happen if another American is ever taken hostage by anyone, anywhere.
I thought it at the time, and I still think it, if Carter had turned Iran into a sheet of glass and written off the hostages as heroes who gave their life for their country, half the crap that's gone on over the last 30 years wouldn't have happened. Instead, we had a world clinic on how to hold America hostage, and it's being practiced over and over again.

That's why they will not do anything to the 200. They are not Americans, only one they have with what, three or four Pirates?? The other hostages are worth too much for them to kill. They will however, use them to get their buddies from the life boat. We, (the United States, not me and the mouse in my pocket), have to do something soon.
How bout sending a diver over blowing the poop deck off the life boat and letting it sink...thuggs will float.lol Then keel haul the punks. Obama knows how to contact me....

I think they made a BIG mistake...and didn't realize it was flagged under the US since it is so rare for one to be flagged!
