LOL!!! Hillary is running around telling N. Korea that if they launch their missle(s) (now maybe 2 of them) that is will be considered a "provocative act", they will be in violations of a UN Treaty and subject to possible sanctions, Barry sayes he is going to meet and "talk" with russia to gain their support to stop the Launch...And what does KIM do, he moves the missle(s) to the launch pad and sayes screw it, I am launching them.

Now we have GATES ( you remember him, he stayed after bush left) saying that the US isn't in any posititon to do anything to stop N. Korea and that KIM WILL launch and He WILL get away with thumbing his nose at the rest of the world....

So where is hillaries Strong, take charge attitude? Where is barry "talking" KIM out of this?? They are no where because they know they have nothing and can do nothing...

LOL, Gate even went as far as to say that barry "talking" to N. Korea and Iran is "fruitless and a waste"...political talk doesn't work with these people, we need "economic sanction", *no money, no help, no food, starve them out, or bomb them back to yester year!!!

From the article:

Gates lamented the futility of diplomatic efforts toward North Korea and Iran, another nation with nuclear ambitions. Despite the Obama administration's talk of ramping up diplomatic overtures toward Tehran, Gates was pessimistic about that strategy.

"Frankly, from my perspective, the opportunity for success is probably more in economic sanctions in both places than it is in diplomacy," Gates said. "What gets them to the table is economic sanctions."

Gates: U.S. Not Prepared to Respond to North Korea Missile Launch

The defense secretary told "FOX News Sunday" that the United States can do nothing to stop North Korea from thumbing its nose at the international community by test-firing a long-range missile.

The United States can do nothing to stop North Korea from breaking international law in the next 10 days by firing a missile that is unlikely to be shot down by the U.S. or its allies, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Sunday.

Appearing on "FOX News Sunday," Gates said North Korea "probably will" fire the missile, prompting host Chris Wallace to ask: "And there's nothing we can do about it?"

"No," Gates answered, adding, "I would say we're not prepared to do anything about it."

Last week, Admiral Timothy Keating, commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific, said the U.S. is "fully prepared" to shoot down the missile. But Gates said such a response is unlikely.

"I think if we had an aberrant missile, one that was headed for Hawaii, that looked like it was headed for Hawaii or something like that, we might consider it," Gates said. "But I don't think we have any plans to do anything like that at this point."

North Korea has moved a missile onto a launch pad and says it will be fired by April 8. Pyonyang insists the missile is designed for carrying a communications satellite, not a nuclear warhead that the secretive nation appears bent on developing.

Gates said while he doesn't think North Korea has the capability yet to shoot off a long-range nuclear-tipped missile, "I don't know anyone at a senior level in the American government who does not believe this technology is intended as a mask for the development of an intercontinental ballistic missile."

Gates conceded that North Korea will likely get away with thumbing its nose at the international community by test-firing the missile. He also said that six-party talks aimed at curbing Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions have been largely fruitless.

"It's very troubling," Gates said. "The reality is that the six-party talks really have not made any headway anytime recently."

Gates also lamented that the missile launch planned by dictator Kim Jong-Il comes just two months after President Obama took office.

"If this is Kim Jong-Il's welcoming present to a new president, launching a missile like this and threatening to have a nuclear test, I think it says a lot about the imperviousness of this regime in North Korea to any kind of diplomatic overtures," he said.

Gates also said Japan is unlikely to shoot down a North Korean missile unless it drops debris on the island nation.

The Obama administration has signaled it wants to scale back the deployment of a missile defense system that was initiated by former President George W. Bush. The White House is also talking about dropping plans for missile defense facilities in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Let's see, two missles, two launch pads, we know exactly where they are. mmmm What problem? Two sub-launched cruise missles. Tell Russia and China to spout off in public and rant and rave in the UN and that will get them off the hook with North Korea and it would then defuse everything. Japan and most everyone else in the region will go along with it, no country around them wants these launches. You can bet your sweet bippy that S. Korea does not want it. Layoutshooter

Japan has told North Korea, Ok Launch them.... we will shoot them down. They have deployed Patriot guided-missile units in and around Tokyo and moved two frigates from their naval ports to start patrolling in the Sea of Japan. They told the US that they are taking up a defensive attitude on this issue and warned Korea and China both.

Good for them. You can bet your boots that we are helping them in the backround. Providing intell etc. I still think it would be better to take them out on the pad, then you knock out the launch pads at the same time. Might as will take out the nuke plants at the same time. Layoutshooter

There is no doubt that they can be taken out of the air by the US or Japan, hell we can take them off the pads, but we won't...remember this is "barry's "nicer and better and admin of change" we are dealing with, he has no gut for a fight, and that is the situation and KIM knows it, no one is going to stop him as far as he can see and he gets the last laugh at the rest of the world. And if you think for a minute that he cares about any sanctions from the UN, forget it, he will let his people starve to prove his point that, "
I can, and you ain't goin to do a thing about it...."

I could be totally off base here, but I think he launches them and japan takes them out, and thats the end of it....I don't see anyone chancing anything to take them off the pad....

Now if we could for sure get the nuke plants, I'd say go for it in a heartbeat.... and also take irans also!!

Ok, now explain how that was scary. I see a real threat to the United States and several other countries for that matter. That threat is North Korea with an ICBM and nuke tips to put on it. It is know that they are working on the nukes and ANY missle that can launch a satillite into orbit can be used as an ICBM. Those are facts. They are not in dispute.

Now, we don't want to risk a direct confrontation with China and the Soviets. China and the Soviets have sort of boxed themselfs in with respects to N. Korea. They are vowed to help be really don't want a confrontation with the United States.

So, we, along with several other nations work behind the scenes. We all agree that Japan will take out the missles when launched. Better yet, we find a way to sell cruise missles to Japan and have them take out the nuke sites, and launch pads. Russia and China scream and yell all over the news and at the UN. Then it is over. They save face. The threat as ended.

It works, it has been done plenty of time in the past.

One thing we just cannot allow is North Korea with an operational ICBM and a nuke war head to go with it. It would be unlikely that Russia or China would be able to control North Korea if that bunch in N. Korea decided to use it. They are wacked enough. They have also destroyed there own economy. The best way to quell internal problems is with an out side enemy.

That is how an intelligence analyst would look at this problem. All threats must be dealt with. None as serious as this one should ever be ignored. I don't believe that this administration is listenoing to what they are told about this. It does not appear so. Barry and CO. believe that they can talk thier way out of anything. Not correct. It does not happen like that.

Now, what is there to be scared of? Other than North Korea with a nuke tipped ICBM that can hit the West Coast of the United States, which they will have if this launch is sucessful. The step to the warhead is very short for them now.

If my anallisys scares you and my possible solutions scare you, please tell me how you would deal with North Korea? Know how they are, Knowning thier history. What would your solution be?

I was merely refering to blowing up the nuke plants. I am all for the Japanese shooting down the missles...

OH, ok, I still see the nuke plants, the sole purpose of which is to produce nuke weapons as a threat. Layoutshooter

It was a really good analisys of the problem. A bit short to be sure and I did use only terms that laymen would use but a bit of insite to how a threat analisys paper would be written. They used to be fun :), except they were almost always ignored. Polititions just do not grasp the concept of hiring good people, letting them do thier job and then acting on the work that is done. That is why we are always in trouble. Layoutshooter

Japan is the one to watch, they view north Korea as a threat for a lot of reasons, kidnappings are one. I think that China may step in again seeing that they can be on the losing end of all of if Japan decides to enforce the UN resolution, which begs the question where is the UN?

China however can use this as an excuse to step into Taiwan and step up their oppression in Tibet. The south Koreans, more precise the unification movement may look at this as something that would force a unification of Korea.

I don't worry about the US at this moment, if they wanted to really do some harm, they could have in the past but remember that Kim is desperate for some action to stabilize his country but he still takes his ques from China.
