Hi Everyone,

On a night run from Texas to Tennessee, one of our clients was driving his Straight Truck and came over a hill.    Out runs a wild boar and KaBoom!   ….He knocks poor little Porky into the median.

He pulled over (the Owner Operator…not the pig) and fortunately the bumper was bent back but not enough to obstruct the front wheel in any way.  It was about 4:00 a.m. in the middle of nowhere, the wild boar was long gone, and he had no time to wait for a police report.

When he told me the story I said “It had to be scary out there in the dark all by yourself”, and he said “What’s scary is that Darn Pig cost me a Grand and I didn’t even get a slice of bacon.”

Our client thought the bumper damage must be about $1,000, and he knew he had a $1,000 Collision deductible.

Well fortunately for him, animal hits are a Comp claim, not a Collision claim.

He had chosen $100 deductible for Comp when he purchased his policy thinking he’d use the lower out of pocket for windshields, but in reality Comp claims can cover all kinds of losses including fire, theft, vandalism, weather, flood…or contact with an animal.

So review your coverage and amend your Comp Deductible if necessary…one of these claims are actually far more likely to occur than Colliding with another vehicle (Collision).

….$100 out of pocket or even $500 out of pocket is a whole lot better than $1,000 out of pocket.

…Hope you enjoyed my “Wee Pig Tale”!

Warm Regards,
