Lots of activity these days on Trucker's "Tractor Only" insurance policies so it's a good time to clarify the difference between Non-Owned Trailer Physical Damage vs Trailer Interchange:

Non-Owned Trailer Physical Damage Coverage :

Coverage can only be written if the policy has a pulling vehicle listed

Coverage applies only to a non-owned trailer and its equipment that are in the care, custody and control of the insured

Trailer Interchange:

Coverage can only be written if the policy has a pulling vehicle listed (Hotshots must have a fifth-wheel hitch to qualify.)

A WRITTEN trailer interchange agreement is required and will be requested in the event of a claim.

Both insure for Comp & Collision:

"Collision" provides coverage in the event of a loss or damage to a trailer caused by collision or overturn.

"Comprehensive" provides coverage in the event of a loss or damage to a trailer caused by incidents other than collision such as:

  • Fire
  • Theft
  • Vandalism
  • Windstorm
  • Contact with Animal
