You can’t solve your problems by complaining about them

Another post, “I am going broke as I am not seeing any loads that work for me!”

If life is giving us lemons, figure out to change the lemons in lemonade.

Usually, the year starts slow in Expediting, and we plan for this by taking extra time off or knowing the loads might not pay as well and are few and far between. It is all part of being an expediter.

To turn the lemon of few loads into lemonade, what can you do?

  • Stay in areas of the country that is known to have a lot of freight
Consider loads that do not pay as well
If nothing is happening in the current area, move to a better location
While you are waiting for a load use the time wisely
Network with others see what and how they are doing
    Read to learn more
Participate in group discussions or read about the trucking industry
Create flyers or business cards to promote your business
    Organize your bookkeeping
Figure out ways to do what you already do well better
Work on a project you have been putting off
    Start a new hobby

The time to plan for slow freight is when the freight is really good. When there are a lot of loads, take the good with the not so good because in the back of your mind, remember there will be a time when freight slows down. The goal is to be on the list of the truck to be on the first call list when a load becomes available when freight is slow.
