It's a Team's Life

Working from home? Oh NO

Our oldest daughter has been working from home for a few weeks, and I have laughed over the stories of her coworker's experiences.  Some have the bonus of their children being home along with their spouses.

Now is when they are having to deal with the children they are raising.  The stories are hilarious of working with their spouse in a tiny area and then when done working having to live with their spouse.  How thankful I am that those of us in trucking figured out how to work and live together long ago and have flourished.  I wondered as I listened to Nicki talk about some of their comments, and I wonder if their feelings might change if their lives depended on the other making good decisions?

For years we have spent months on the road in our "tiny house" working and living together.  When we first started as truck drivers in 2000, we were in an OEM sleeper.  Bob upgraded the tiny refrigerator to a small dorm type refrigerator in our first truck.  Looking back now I amazed at all the meals I was able to prepare for the two of us in that truck.  There are lot of tricks to create storage in small spaces and I put all of that to work. There was a will to have home-cooked meals, and we found a way.  Funny now twenty years later and in a much larger sleeper, I still have storage problems!

Many of us expediters have a larger sleeper where we can "self-isolate" and still do our jobs.

How will this change our futures?

I am thankful that we moved up into a truck with a shower and that we can keep to ourselves.

Unknowingly we have set up our truck nicely to "self-isolate" as we have the solar panels that allow us to park long periods and not use our generator.  Will solar become something more think of in the future?

Even with our larger sleeper, our area that we live and work in twenty-four hours a day is much smaller than what I hear people complaining about. In time I believe they will adjust to working in small quarters with their spouse, or they will end up going their separate ways.  I hope they learn to respect each other's small space and make it work as it seems as if this might be the wave of the future.

There are so many things I am thankful for right now, as it would be a long list if I wrote them all out.

At the top of the list would be that I am glad we have figured out how to work and live together and enjoy each other's company.
