Still Getting it Together

It is pretty exciting to pull into our house and see our truck sitting on the pad by Bob’s shop. The work is not done by a long shot as Bob is still is performing his tweaks:

  • Installing five recording cameras from Diesel Boss.
    1. dash cam
    2. right side
    3. left side
    4. rear-facing
    5. in the box
  • Installing the tire pressure monitoring system from Pressure Systems International
  • Adding two side panels under the sleeper
  • Adding two more toolboxes
  • Getting the solar panels installed on the freight box from Bergstrom

In between him getting all of these projects done we have on more IndyCar race for the season. The last race of the season is the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey, CA. After the race in Portland, we took one of the trucks with the engineering trailer down to Monterey and parked it till the race. This track is on top of a mountain, and the grade to get the truck and trailer to the parking area felt as if we were trying to drive straight up. We weighed in at about 76,000 lbs. We climbed slow, and the whole time I kept remembering that what goes up must come down, and I am not looking forward to leaving that track. We have tested the engine brake on the Western Star, and it works very well, and I know that going slow and the engine brake we will make it down the mountain after the race. We will take the trucks back to Chicago and their home base and then it is back to our expediting.  What a crazy year we have had, and I am not too sure we ever want a repeat.
