Staying Alert

I really enjoy listening to books while driving but if an author gets to dry or after so many hours of listening I need a break!   I most often turn to my IPOD and listen to music I can sing to myself.   I enjoy alternative music that has a very fast beat and this gets me singing along to the music silently as I cannot sing at all and Bob would wake up wondering who was screeching in the front seat!   Bob likes to listen to the comedy channel and we had to add rules to our truck no singing or LAUGHING out loud while listening to the radio.   In the back you cannot hear the XM at all so all you hear is the laughter or the singing and it will slowly drive you over the edge.   When you are in an awesome part of the country it is fun to turn on the Dave Nemo show XM 171 at seven in the morning and listen to our national anthem.   Starts out my day on an great note and this usually continues till the sun goes down in the evening.   There are also many parts of the country that are so amazing to see I turn off all sounds and just admire the view I have from my huge office windows.   There are also times when traffic is bad, I am in construction, or trying to find a shipper or receiver where I do not need any distractions so the cab is very quiet.   The whole key to me is using whatever I have at my disposal to be as alert as possible when driving my shift.
