Short Week?
Short Week?
Last week was supposed to be a planned short week of work. We left home on Sunday to stage for a load that picked up on Monday. Our first load was a short pick and deliver in the same day. As often happens, the pick up was delayed. We did make our delivery on time. Fortunately, our second load picked up at the same location as our delivery. We were able to delivery on Tuesday. The plan was then to head back home for a couple of week’s vacation. Again, plans changed.
I noticed that when I started the truck the air gauges were low and the alarm went off. At the time we looked for air leaks and found none. As we did the two loads mentioned above the truck continued to seem to lose air when we turned the truck off. We had already planned to make one stop on our way home to purchase a steer tire. I had won a gift certificate at the Mid America Truck Show this year to a tire shop that was along our way home. We stopped, got the tire mounted and balanced and had planned to continue home. Our preferred maintenance shop was within a few hours of where we purchased the tire so we decided to have the truck checked for air leaks. After the shop found a couple of leaks we thought we were good to go so we made our way home. By the time we got home we had determined that the truck was still leaking air. Dave was able to find the leak in one of the sleeper air bags.
A final plan for the week was to take the truck to the sleeper company to have some maintenance done while we are on vacation. Because of the extra day that we used to stop along the way home we had one less day to empty the truck of nearly all items in the sleeper. We delivered the truck to the sleeper company on Saturday. What was supposed to be a short week turned out to be a very full week. I don’t mean to sound like I’m complaining; however the next couple of weeks off are coming at the perfect time. In addition, finding the air leak in the air bag under the sleeper allows us to have the air bags replaced while we are on vacation as well. Over the years, we have learned that  everything happens for a reason. We could not have planned better timing if we had tried.Â
Here’s wishing you millions of safe, profitable and MAINTENANCE FREE miles.
