Real ID

What is Real Identification?  It is where and individual verifies identity and the mailing address on the front of the Drivers License.  For the person to do this when to get a new license they provide the licenses bureau certain documents verifying the persons address.

Why should we as truck drivers get a Real ID?  The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will only accept Real ID boarding domestic airline flights.  The real ID also replaces a standard Drivers License that will be accepted to be allowed to gain access to federal facilities, nuclear plants, and military facilities when making pickups or deliveries.

The deadline for full enforcement of Real ID was going to be May 3, 2023.  But, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had stated that the impact of COVID-19 is why the now have extended the deadline another 24-months to May 7, 2025.  The original deadline was set to Oct 1, 2021.  So, it appears that the DHS keeps pushing out the deadline due to delays in state licenses bureau delays.

This Real ID will not replace the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card to gain access to any maritime facility or ship.
