Mobile Office

We are usually on the road for several months at a time and while that sounds like a lot of time away from home we have an advantage. We live with Nicki, our oldest daughter and she has the responsibility of maintaining the house, the yard, the mail, and babysitting us.   Nicki keeps us informed of what is going on with the house and if there is any mail that needs to be dealt with such as being called to jury duty.

While away from home we are able to concentrate on trucking and our business.

Over the years my desk has ranged from the top of the bed to what I have now with our table.   Someday maybe I will have a small roll top desk in the truck where I can keep everything in one area.   When we were in the OEM sleeper Bob built a shelf that strapped under the upper bunk that held my printer/scanner as well as a space for my laptop.

I found the traveling file folder box many years ago and it is starting to show its million miles.   As the box ages I have looked for something to replace it and have found nothing as convenient.   There are pockets for my pens, stapler, envelopes, stamps, paperclips, and hanging folders.

Neat Receipts has been a great addition to the truck as I scan everything before it is filed away.   When we go home I clean out the traveling file box and file away all of my receipts.   If we need any warranty work when out on the road it is easy to print out the proper receipt for the shop.

The wireless printer has worked great for me as I can leave it in the cabinet and print away!   The Epson printer works well with both my Apple and Windows computers and I can easily move back and forth printing.   We have been able to do away with all fax fees, as I am able to print forms, sign the forms, and email back or stick the form in an envelope and use snail mail.

The clear plastic boxes work well to store extra printer cartridges, software, cables and cords.   The boxes sure increase the storage capacity of these cabinets, as they are tall and deep.   I like the clear as I can quickly find what I am looking for and since they are stackable they do not fall out on my head when I open the cabinets.

The mini I-Pad is new and I am wondering how I have lived without this.   The Mini takes fantastic pictures and I can also write notes about what I am seeing or about the picture.   The Mini is also used when I am researching as I can look up web sites and then type on my Mac.

The lighting in the sleeper also works very well to light up what I am working on.   The common theme with every truck we have been in has been this mobile office and the ability to easily keep track of receipts and bills that need to be paid.   It is much easier now as I pay bills on line instead of carrying hard copy of bills.
