Lock Maintenance

Something you probably do not think about is lock maintenance on your truck.  Well years ago, Stephen did not think about it and ran into a problem at a shipper.  He was running our previous truck as a solo and the lock on one of the barn doors rusted.  It would not open no matter what.  Luckly the shipper was a machine shop and was able to cut the lock off for me.  But it was a lesson learned.

Every spring, summer, fall, and winter Stephen does lock maintenance on every lock on our 2016 Freightliner Cascadia.  He even does it more often when we have been running on salt treated roads.  He uses 3-In-One Lock Dry Lube and Ultra Duster air spray.  Stephen is still using the original one he bought back in 2013 or 2014.

Ultra Duster.

He sprays into every lock on the truck.  This includes the drivers and passenger doors, all three of the baggage doors on the sleeper, both locks on the tool box and the most important is the lock on the back of the truck on the barn door.  You know the one that bit him in the “you know what” at a shipper.

Our really good friend and one of our mentors Bob Caffee did a blog and video for Freightliner Team Run Smart.  In this blog and video, he explains how to service the locks.  Please do not complain about the cinematography of the video……yes Stephen was running the camera for Bob.

Here is the link to the blog and video:  Keeping Locks In Working Order

The process of doing the maintenance is simple and not time consuming at all.  Stephen can have all of them done is less than 10 minutes.  The one he spends the most time on is the lock on the back of the truck on the barn door….gee wonder why.

Here are pictures of the locks Stephen does maintenance on our Cascadia.
