Going home for Christmas?

New Year's Eve and day are very important to me as that is the day I spend closing out the previous year and getting all of my files and reports ready for the next year. This really is a day I enjoy as I start new file folders and label them and start new spread sheets with blank pages.

We will be home for a couple weeks and the truck will also be gone over with a fine-tooth comb to prepare for the following cold months. We will have extra filters, wipers, and wind shield wash, and also a bottle of 911 just in case we start to gel.

The truck will be loaded up with extra blankets as well as coats and shoes to handle the ice and snow. We will also have our shoe chains in the door pouch for easy access. We keep our movies in CD cases and a new CD case of movies will be added to the truck as we know with down time we often will not be able to get out and walk.

Many years ago when we had a Rig Master we were in very very cold weather and about 3:00 a.m. the Rig Master started to gel and Bob leaped out of bed, got dressed, and added 911 to the fuel tanks. My mind started racing thinking of what we would do if stranded and the truck was to gel. Since that time we have carried extra blankets and plenty of scarves, hats, and gloves, and well as thick warm winter socks. Very seldom have we needed all of these extras but in this case I would rather stay warm then be sorry.

Another trick that we have learned is to keep a candle in the truck for emergencies as it can be a source of heat. I keep a candle wrapped in a side cabinet for just in case but have not had to use it. We also bring our thermal underwear for just in case and we have worn the thermal underwear when we are doing a lift gate load.

So while we are home for the holidays a lot of work also gets done as we will close out 2016 and start fresh with 2017.
