It's a Team's Life

Expediting isn't just an adventure, it's a job;

While the job is an adventure there are many times when the adventure becomes a job.   Our job does not recognize a time clock or holidays; when there is work there is work.

For us there is a plan and our first plan was to raise our girls and send them off to college as successful young adults.    Our lives revolved around the girls, their activities, and being there when they needed us which is what we did.   Once they left for college we left home for our next chapter in life.

The freedom of the road had been calling our name for several years and we were ready to take on the challenges of new jobs.   We have been expediting for over eight years and we are still fascinated by the work, the people we meet, the freedom we have, and our involvement in trucking.

There are times when the "job" part really hits home and the scenery outside of my office window is not appealing.   There are times when I want to call in sick as the truck is rocking due to howling wind and blowing snow.   There are other times when I first started driving that I would worry and lose sleep over where I was going to have to drive the next day or worrying about the weather.

Several years have gone by and my self-confidence has grown and with that pride in a job well done.   Now I know I have the experience to get through the cities or weather situations that scared me.   I know that if the weather is bad I can pull off the road and wait it out, or if I miss a turn I can get back to where I need to be.

The job has allowed me to see the changing of the leaves in person and that is much better than any picture I have seen.   Downtown cities and their lights fascinate me and I have been through most of the major cities and I am still impressed with the skyscrapers.   People often ask what is my favorite area of the country and it is impossible to pick just one and each area has some amazing qualities.

The job has its drawbacks at first glance...   We often miss family gatherings or picnics, we are often late for special occasions and when we do show up we are often dragging in a bag of laundry.   When I look back at my 9-5 job I was actually less available to family and friends than I am now.   I could not take personal calls during the day where the person on the other end is upset and needs someone to pour their heart out to or I could not take vacation time to attend a special occasion.   Now both Bob and I are a phone call away day and night and we do not need to take vacation time to see a loved one.

While this job is not perfect it is as close to perfect of anything Bob and I have done in our lives and we started at the right time for us.
