Dining In

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have not seen many restaurants open for sit down dining. I wonder how many will open as they were or if fast food with little seating will become the norm?  Is the traditional truck stop restaurant with the drivers counter a thing of the past?

Our one attempt to visit with a friend at a newly open restaurant was a disaster that will not be repeated.  This truck stop has a chain restaurant inside and I have never found the restaurant personnel to be very friendly.  That has not improved.

While wearing masks we were seated, not greeted, at a table in the middle of the room not close to any other guests.  After a bit, a waitress came over wearing a mask and gloves to take our order.  Again no greeting just stood at the table waiting for us to speak. Wearing a mask it is difficult to see a smile so why not just frown?  I do not believe she realized her eyes showed her true feeling of “I do not want to be here”.

Our order was placed for drinks and one dessert and we waited for our drinks and waited and waited.  In time our drinks were delivered but no silverware or napkins.  When the dessert was delivered still no silverware and no other table to take any from.  We finally got her attention that we needed a couple of napkins and silverware and that was done I believe with a growl in our direction.

There were a couple of other tables with people but overall the restaurant was very slow.  In no time all we wanted to do was get out of there.  Next time we want to visit with a friend it will be in the truck, on the liftgate, or in the shade as we will not be going back inside this chain.

This experience left a bad taste in all of our mouths and I do not have any desire to have a repeat.  I sure hope you have had better luck than us.
